    • For me...when we quit doing all the gift exchanging among family and some friends...it took a load off of me and them too.  We all basically have what we want and need and for my family we felt we were just buying stuff to be buying...so we stopped and suggested that we all donate to our favorite charity each Christmas instead.  I still do “small” things for a few close friends and my sisters but nothing major.  I mean like homemade gifts, or $10-$20 gifts...for my sister...but like I said...nothing big at all.  Even a cute ornament we will give sometimes. It’s not about the gift...it’s about the fellowship.  All of that extra buying and time spent to find stuff took a major load off.

Also...I start decorating for Christmas BEFORE Thanksgiving.  Now I’m not forgetting Thanksgiving because I host my husband’s family each year for Thanksgiving.  I love that holiday and it means a lot to me.  But by getting all of my Christmas decorating done before Thanksgiving...takes a major load off of me for Christmas. I work hard preparing the Thanksgiving meal and so forth so when Thanksgiving is done...I can just relax during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If I’m going to do all that decorating it’s going to stay up longer than a couple of weeks or even just a month.  When Christmas is over...I want all of the decor DOWN...I hate to see it up afterwards.

Those two things have helped me the past 3 years during the holiday season.

    • MaryClark.. I did that last year... decorated before Thanksgiving and it was a huge difference.. I don’t think I have it in me this year to do it until after but that’s okay.

I too stopped giving so many gifts because that’s a major stress too... so it’s all good.

i think as the years go by we learn how to make it less stressful.  Hooray

    • I’m sure with you losing your father recently it will be hard through the holidays.  But I used doing all of that to keep me busy instead of focusing on losing my mother which will be two years next month.  I can easily slip into a depression if I allow myself.  So...busy is good.  I hope your holidays will be smoother than you anticipate!!

    • As I begin shopping immediately after Christmas each year, stress is already reduced. This year, the gifts I’ve already bought for my grandchildren will not be added to, thus; another stress reliever! I am  decorating  earlier, therefore, my stress level will diminish even more. Awwwwwww......

    • No, I usually just buy gifts for my husband and 2 boys and just send money to my brothers.  We also don’t have anyone coming over so we don’t have to worry about making a big meal or anything.

    • I definitly don’t get stressed out anymore during the holidays. OK, except for at work...lol, but thats because our boss stresses out about certain things, so he stresses everyone else out too.tongue out

Anyway, no biggie. But for the past few years now, I am less stressed out because I don’t have to shop for my brother-n-law anymore. I know that sounds mean, but really If you girls knew him, you would totally understand. He has always been the hardest to buy for cause he has really expensive taste. Brand name kind of man should I say, so every year that I had to go look for a gift for him just made me so stressed It made me sick. To top it off, he really never liked anything I got him. He has been out of a job for 12 years now and he still has expensive taste.ohhhh

He will never change and I don’t expect him too either. But I changed and therefore I don’t stress myself out by getting him anything. I told my husband, it’s your turn now, I will shop for everyone else, but you have to shop for your brother. Let me put it this way....A couple years ago he returned the gift I had got him from me and my hubby and told my hubby(his brother) that he didn’t want this gift and would rather have a gift card to such and such place.ohhhh I was speechless and that just put a halt to my shopping for him ever!
