    • I am one of those people with a high cholesterol reading as it runs in our family...270 was the last reading about two months ago, but I am on a strict regimen right now, eating oatmeal every day and trying to do everything right...don’t want the meds!

    • 165.  They check it when we donate blood.

I think genetics has a LOT to do with it because I’ve never particularly watched what I eat and we are meat, and butter, and dairy eaters.

I’m a little worried though.  My daughter who is 24 said hers was 201.  That seems high for a kid, isn’t it?

    • Over 200 is something to watch for, Tulip. It may be something she ate the day before, worth another check in a few weeks.

I need to have mine checked. Last time it was 214. I want it under 200.

    • Prior to my gastric bypass surgery over a year ago mine ran about 240 to 260.  My last bloodwork in October revealed 188..my good cholesterol went up..and my bad went down.  And that a whole year of NOT being on meds (like I was) and having the surgery.

      Yeah...I’m happy about it....estatic

Anything over 200 should be watched! And check your good & bad numbers too.

    • I have no idea what my cholesterol level is.  Last time I know of that it was checked, the doctor said my tryglicerides were high but that was all that was said.  So I’m guessing that it is okay.

    • Luckily, my good number was high and bad number low, but will work hard to decrease the overall number.

Tulip, definitely talk to your daughter about her diet, as 201 could be high for a person that age.  Our son, who does like to eat many different things, is 24, and his reading was 170 recently.

    • Last time I checked it was high enough for my doctor to want to place me on Lipitor. I told her no, dropped it down 60 points and she said it was still high enough for statin drugs. I’m one of those whose hereditarily screwed, all of my father’s side of the family died of some sort of heart disease. But what they didn’t do that I do is regulate my food intake and exercise, so we’ll see.
