Don’t blame these women so much, it’s obviously management letting them get away with it, just as their parents obviously let them get away with it.

To my way of thinking, common sense is learned as a toddler and if you don’t learn it then, all hope is lost.  You can tell a small child 10,000 times that a stove burner is hot and not to touch it.  And you’ll have to tell him over and over the same thing.  You tell him once that it’s hot and if he tries to touch it again, you let him, he learns the lesson and you never have to tell him again that a stove burner is hot.   Too many people in the last 50 years have been telling their kid 10,000 times that the stove burner is hot rather than letting them deal with consequences.

Without consequences, I don’t think there can be any common sense.

    • The reason I asked this question is because it seems, that common sense ain’t so common in these days and times. I work with 98% women from different cultures and age groups, and the youngest age is around 22 yrs. old I am a supervisor to many of these women and it seems that most of them don’t take their jobs seriously nor the positions they hold and it pertains to the care of another persons life and their livelihood. Even the women my age 50+ are making some of the most stupidest mistakes and it appears to be on purpose, WTH??? I just wonder why do many even come to work, they tell management what they‘re NOT going to do and they get away with it, I just don’t get it!

    • Great question but I’m afraid there is no real good answer to that. It’s my belief you are either born with the ability to acquire it or your not. Case in point my in-laws both very smart people with great common sense and my husband is the same as well, where as my sister-in-law not even a drop. I am always asking my husband what happened to her you both came from the same “Good” family didn’t you? She is off the charts, her complete lack of common sense astounds me. I think some of the problem is a lot of people for the most part enable one to function like that making excuses for such behavior. It’s been my experience that most people that do not have common sense have no idea they don’t and trying to explain it to them is like trying to teach a dog to speak Japanese. I think wherever common sense comes from it starts when we are young and evolves with time, once your an adult I’m not so sure you can acquire it.

    • I have asked myself that question a million times.  IMO, you either have it or you don’t, no matter how much you try to drill it into someone’s head...each person has their own agenda..guess that is why we are all different.

    • It does still exist Vikki.  And to my great suprise, it even exists in young people!!!  I worked with a young man on Tues and Wed. who is just 18 and he had common sense! I told him he restored my faith in modern young men.

    • (sigh) Sometimes I wonder where scientists get that we use 10% of our brainpower. Too many people seem to forget about those or choose not to use them.

To have common sense you need to stop and think of what you are doing, why you are doing it and the consequences intaled. It also requires sometimes to be able to put yourself in other people’s shoes, and weigh out the best solution for all. It seems to me people are too concentrated on their bellybutton to bother with the rest.

However, I do know  people with common sense of all age groups. Ladies, you are not alone!!
