    • Oh HELL no! I rarely go to the drive thru because they invariably screw up the order.   I don’t tip in ANY fast food situation.

    • Interesting question though, I’d never even thought about it.

    • Me neither!  They have messed up so often that now we just check our order right then and there before we leave the window.

    • A tip is for doing an exceptional job in servicing me such at a restaurant.   I do not consider a drive thru a place where an individual is given that exceptional service.  A drive thru employee taking my order is no different than a cashier checking me out at the grocery store.  You don’t tip a cashier at a grocery store! Usually a waiter or waitress does not make minimum wage but the tips she or he earns makes up the difference (sometimes).  But if she or he does a really good job for those patrons....she OR he should be tipped accordingly.

      Drive thrus.....NO!

    • Never have, although there is one particular young woman at our local Mickey D’s who is very thorough and when I drive through for my coffee, she is pleasant and polite..she should be working at a nicer restaurant and receive tips.

    • My reason for asking this question:

Going through the drive thru with my hubby, he tipped the one who brought the food to the window. She acted as if she’d been given the grand prize.  She was totally overwhelmed!

This teen displayed excellent customer service!

I must say, my hubby has always had a heart for giving to others.heart

    • I don’t remember the last time I went through a drive through. It’s been years. But, no, I wouldn’t tip. But, Butterflyrose, what your husband did was wonderful. If I was in a drive through and a young person behind the window displayed exceptional customer service I might have done the same thing in that situation.

    • I don’t use the drive thru because I don’t have a car. Restaurant workers make a certain wage which I believe is less than minimum wage because of their tips. Fast food workers make the minimum or more but they are not tipped. (I’ve worked in both so I know.) Their “tip” would be informing the manager that this employee goes above and beyond, that’s it.
