Sorry, I don’t mean to be disgusting. I was cutting up a fresh pineapple, ate a bit, and then noticed some bugs imbeded in it. I freaked out and googled about bugs in pineapple. I never knew pineapples could be infested with mealy bugs. Now I have to throw it away! Has this ever happened to you?
No I never knew this either, see it just makes it even harder for a person to try and eat healthy lol.
Hey, those mealy bugs aren’t going to hurt you any. Just consider it a little extra protein.
Actually, I’ve never seen a pineapple with bugs. I’d have thrown the whole mess to the chickens. Ick.

Wow! We buy pineapple all the time living in Hawaii and I’ve never seen any bugs.
You‘re right Cynthia, there’s tons of fresh pineapple in Hawaii and this is the first time I’ve seen bugs. I bought it at a reputable grocery store. The paper tag said it’s Del Monte a product of Costa Rica. Such luck to get a bad one.
It does seem yucky, usually I save the receipt and take the item back. If you do go back to that store, definitely let them know what you found..they might have a bad batch.
I was cooking a piece of fish one day and as I dug deeper into the flesh, there was a very thin worm in it. I was disgusted and dumped the whole thing..unfortunately, it was already breaded, so it was useless to take it back to the store.
Hi Marya,
Thanks for the idea of informing the store about it, but I threw away the receipt before cutting it. This store still has tons of pineapple on sale. Maybe I’ll let customer service know about it.
I am just now recovering from food poisoning from fresh pineapple so i do know what you are talking about first hand experience.
