    • Where I live, if you work more than 20 hours a week (I think) employers have to give some type of health insurance. When I was single and working here in the late 90’s, my employer gave us Kaiser insurance which in Hawaii was very good. If we had insurance from another company through our spouse we were given the cash in our paychecks. My husband has insurance through work but has to pay for mine which I think is about $300 a month. I’ve heard that the requirement for employers to provide health insurance has changed around the country. How is it in your area?

    • We don’t have too many requirements for employers here, but most of them offer health insurance to attract good help.

I’m part time, so I don’t get health insurance, but if I went to full time, I know my work has some sort of insurance plan.  Based on the lack of willingness of my coworkers to go to the doctor, I don’t know that it’s very good insurance.

Hubby’s company has a great insurance plan and do an “employee plus one” thing.  I’m not sure what percentage of the insurance they pay, but I think it’s a pretty big chunk.

    • Hub works for a private optometry college..his health insurance is paid in full by the college.  Son and I are also on his plan, but they deduct $400.00 a month to cover us.  It is an HMO, but a better one.  Son could be on it until the age of 26 or if his present employer offers him a plan after he is there for a certain amount of time, then he will take that.

    • Yes, I have family health insurance.  Previously I worked 24 hours a week and also have family health coverage.

    • I believe if you don’t work 40 hours-they don’t have to provide anything for you.  dh’s company gives a choice, we take Kaiser.  they pay for 1/2 of his. we pay about $300 a month.

    • Yes, but my main benefits are with my hubby’s company. I have vision and short-term disability coming out of my check all else comes from hubby’s benefits.
