In your area is 6th grade considered as elementary or middle school?
In our county 6th graders are in elementary school. Other counties have 6th graders in middle school. Our district projects that in a couple of years due to the baby boom and new homes built in our area we may have an overflow of 6th grade students. So the current elementary schools will not be able to accomodate them so a larger middle school will need to be built.
It was elementary when I went and middle school when my kids went. I’m not really sure what it is now where I live.

Elementary for my kids. They didn’t really have such a thing as middle school.

In my area it is middle school, where I was reared it is elementary school.
It’s middle school here but when I went to school which was a Catholic school - elementary included Kindergarten through 8th grade although 7th and 8th grade were on the bottom floor, separated from the rest of the grades.
