Q & A

If you have a wood deck, what do you use to stain/ seal it? What’s the easiest way to apply it? This will be our first time doing it. Thanks happy

    • There is the easy way and then there is the RIGHT way.

Deck sealer is deck sealer.  Pick a brand and stick with it.  I’ve used Thompson’s, I’ve used the hardware store brand, and a few things in between.  They all work about the same.  The people at the paint store (and I do recommend shopping at a local paint store, not a big box store- can’t stress that part enough!) should be able to tell you what stands up best to weather in your area.

You can spray it on, you can apply it with a wool pad, but the only thing that really works it in properly so you have a finish that lasts is the good old fashioned way with a paint brush.  Give it at least two coats with adequate drying time between coats.
