    • Yesterday at break time we ended up having a rather interesting discussion about this. It was me and a group of men varying in age from 18 to 52.

The general consensus of that group is that the media is making a mountain out of mole hill and that kids should learn to deal with stuff.

The 18 yr. old minority is the one who rolled his eyes and said, “they gotta learn to DEAL with it man!”

The 21 yr old said, “whatever happened to ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me‘?  Don’t parents teach their kids anything anymore?”

    • bullying is a form of abuse. it is not new and in the olden days it was ignored and not talked about. today we are fortunate to have media as a means to showcase those who have been bullied and how it has impacted on their lives.  we can more readily identify this behaviour from articles written by specialists.  specialists who can help those who bully and their victims.  what children and adults should learn is that abuse of any form is unacceptable and that it is cool, alright and the correct thing to do to talk out about it, seek help and report it.

    • I seriously don’t understand the online thing.

My mama taught me that you can only be bullied if you let someone bully you.

Why do kids let this petty crap matter so much?

    • I agree with Nita. At our school bullying is not tolerated. It’s promptly dealt with by our administrators and counselor.

It may be petty crap, but some bullies will never leave the victim(s) alone. So responsible adults need to do something about it. It must be stopped!

    • Bullying has been around for a long time and hidden away. While it is not tolerate in certain environments bully’s tend to wait to walk out the door then engage in it. It must be stopped. It sometimes escalates into physical abuse sometimes sexual in nature. I am glad that the media is not allowing it to be hidden any more

    • Bullying is very dangerous and today it is more than just some simple name-calling or idle threats...kids are committing suicide over it, it is damaging to kid’s views of themselves, and as Kmarie mentioned can escalate into physical and/or sexual abuse.

Many bullies are relentless as they literally want to break the victim’s spirit and psyche.

I believe any bully...young or old should be dealt with by the authorities and a good psychiatrist.
