My oldest was picked on for awhile in grade school, but nothing that I’d call bullying. My kids were lucky enough to go to an extremely small school, and for the most part went from pre-school to graduation with the same group of kids. They had their tussels and out and out fights, but they all worked it out eventually.

many years ago my son was in primary school. we told him to defend himself and we would talk to the principle if needed. from incidents like these the school set up a council of students and it was their job to bring to report concerns and ways of dealing with bullying and other social issues
Not exactly sure what constitutes bullying as today it has exploded..all over the Net, in schools, in neighborhoods, at work, etc. In my day, yes, there was a lot of bullying going on..girls tormenting other girls, fist fights, hair pulling, secret notes, etc..has it gotten worse than that?? I was even grabbed by my wrist and threatened at my place of employment back in 1986 by a co-worker and I quit as I may have been murdered by this person, just because she just did not like me.
Our son was bullied when he was very young, and I had to intervene as growing up in a big city is very tough..lots of a**holes. Now, if anyone approaches him in any way, they risk getting their head knocked off their shoulders, he is a strong young man.![]()
It seems to be the same thing I think just that we all thought differently about it years ago. Now days it seems to really be life threatening as the child bullied seems to take their life. I don’t recall hearing about kids bullied doing that back than. Of course back then someone hit you you hit them back harder and they stopped. I’m not sure how it’s handled now helps if you look at death tolls compared to back then but it seems the same stuff happened with the exception now they bully just to put it on youtube and get five minutes of fame.
It is very disturbing to me that anyone in their right mind would think it is funny or awesome to literally intimidate another human being to get five minutes of fame. Any bully whether it be a child, teen or adult has some serious mental, emotional and social issues and they are in need of therapy.
I think many of us middle aged parents feel kids can work it out as we did, it does not seem to be the case anymore if the bullying is so severe that someone takes their life. It also makes me wonder how the relationship is between the young person being bullied and their parents..can the young person not talk about it? Do they feel embarrassed? Did they do something that could have initiated the bullying? There are so many questions.
Sorry to be long, but this subject hits a sensitive nerve with me and I wish this would become a topic that is talked about at home, in school and the work-place in length. The bullies must understand that this will not be tolerated and they will pay a stiff penalty, and it should be implemented in every state.
