    • Hub’s mom is making the transition to an assisted living facility this coming weekend and we all hope it will be suitable for her.  There is early onset of Alzheimer’s disease and the family felt this was the best alternative for her.  What are your thoughts?

    • I have an aunt who is in a nursing home/rehab center.  She fell and broke her hip.  I have visited her a handful of times and frankly, wasn’t that impressed.  The place smells, there was a woman who was screaming in pain constantly right across the hall from my aunt, and one time my aunt seemed really out of it and the staff didn’t seem to know why.  In my aunt’s case, there really isn’t anyone who can help her, she has no kids or husband, so there wasn’t much of a choice. frown   I would just check on your hub’s mom and see how she’s doing, how the staff treats her, etc.

    • Sometmes assisted living or nursing home is the only possible option.  However, if it was my parents, I would exhaust all possible options before I went that route.

I have worked in both a nursing home and an assisted living.  Quality of life there is only as good as the quality of the people working.  I’m not sure I could trust my parent’s care to someone who is only there to collect a paycheck.

    • I’m with Tulip here, I worked as a cook in a nursing home but made my way around the halls when I had a chance, it’s a very sad existence . And it was a upper class area and cost. It smelled bad all the time, people were left sitting on the toilets, crying out to be helped, they were left to feed themselves and were unable to and that’s just what I saw....

    • Hub’s sister made this decision because their mom was living with her and her family for ten years and it has taken a toll on them, so all the siblings put their heads together and found this place.  If I know his family, they will absolutely keep on top of the situation once she is there.  My SIL is a nurse and takes no crap from anyone.tongue out

    • Hub’s mom is now in her new home and they tell me it is very nice.  There is a small lake around the facility where the ducks swim, she has a beautiful spacious room, there are activities and many people to talk to, day trips, excellent meals.  There will be a time of getting used to the place, but in the long run she will be happy.  The area is near Cherry Hill, NJ, which has nice shopping malls and places to eat, so when the family visits, they can take her out.
