    • Last night at our community get-together, I had a lady going off about how the meaning of Memorial day is forgotten and it’s just another three day weekend to some people for them to just “go do what they want“.

    • She’s right, I confess that I’m one of those people. Of course, I respect our veterans, but many of us have forgotten the true meaning of Memorial day. I used to work at another school which invited and honored some of our local veterans as well as some staff at an assembly on the Friday before the holiday. It was a great sight to see these men and women in their attire and medals. My current school doesn’t, but schools should educate the students about the true meaning. On Sunday a veteran was standing in the lobby of a store with his poppies and donation can. I meant to donate before leaving the store, however I was in a rush. Felt bad that I didn’t.

    • She is absolutely right T, in our neighborhood on Saturday night people were shooting off fireworks...really!?  Memorial Day is a day to honor our military veterans, not run around and act foolish, drunk and belligerent..people can reserve that for the 4th of July.

    • I know a whole bunch of veterans.  I love, honor, and respect them and think often of what they’ve done. And I have coffee with them as often as I can and listen to their stories.

BUT when my employer gives me a Monday off, you better believe I’m not going to be sitting in the stuffy gym listening to some program.  I’m going to be making that 5 hour drive to see my kid.
