    • So awhile back I needed the oil changed in my Ranger.  Since I don’t get home during business hours to take it to my regular mechanic, I took it to “a friend of a friend” sort of deal.   Oil change was reasonably priced, so ok.  Mechanic told me my old pickup needed $500 worth of parts and labor to fix the front end.  Did I want to schedule an appointment?  NO!!!!!

So, a couple months have passed.  The Ranger drives fine and has no symptoms that there may be trouble with the steering/suspension components.   I got to feeling more and more like this mechanic had been trying to rip me off.

Today, I took my Ranger to the mechanic that is literally next door to my work place (incidentally the same guy hubby goes to) and had him give me a second opinion on the Ranger.

I dropped the Ranger off and stopped back later to talk to him.  He shook his head.  “There is nothing wrong with that front end except one of these days we should think about replacing the wheel bearing.  It’s certainly nothing that needs to be done immediately.”

WOW!  I’m so glad I got the second opinion!

    • Thanks for the warning to get a second opinion.  Several years ago when I was so stupid and naive I know people have ripped me off. Some time ago when the pipe under the bathroom sink was leaking, I called a well-known plumbing company. Two plumbers came and also wanted to check the crawl space pipes to see if water was leaking there. They said that it’s leaking big time and will cost $800 to fix it. Well, they charged me too much for the sink pipe leak so I said NO. Fortunately, the regular plumber I use was finally available so I had him check it. He said there is no leak!

Thanks again, sometimes a second opinion is necessary.

    • Sometimes you need a third opinion. The ortho dr I went to for a 2nd opinion is the one who was surgery happy and did surgery wether it was needed or not.

    • You go girl!!!! The first mechanic though because you are a women you were stupid.  He probably does that to a lot of females, to bad you didn’t report him to the BBB or your state attorney general and report about his shady business practice.

    • I may do that yet, if I can keep the fact that I did quiet.  He is the son-in-law of a very, very good friend of mine and I don’t want to cause hard feelings there.

I do have to wonder how many other women he’s done this to.  Lucky for me I know a lot about cars.  I cringe when I think of what would have happened if I didn’t.

    • We have a regular place that we take our cars to, and hub does all home repair himself.  As far as doctors, I ask so many questions, they can’t wait to get rid of me.estatic
