Q & A

My excuse for jury duty was denied. So I’m required to serve as a juror for 2 days minimum. The letter was threatening - failure to appear may result in criminal prosecution and punishment according to the law. What the heck is this a scare tactic?

    • According to the note the length of service is from 8am to 4:30pm. I get a whopping $10 a day, the bus ticket they sent me is for the wrong bus, and the original date of service is Dec 23, which got changed to Dec 24. I’m supposed to call or check their website after 5pm the day before to confirm that my attendance is required. What the heck it’s the holidays?

    • No, it’s not scare tactics, it’s the law. Technically, Christmas eve is not a holiday.  I didn’t know the judicial system worked it, but most people do.

    • I know Christmas eve is not a holiday and most people do work. I know it’s the law, but geesh I didn’t ask for it sure I was a random pick. So I would be a considered a criminal - come on.  Well, when I checked the site after 5 pm yesterday (12/23) today’s was also excused and my obligation for this jury term is now complete. Sorry, I got too worked up about the situation.
