    • A few times when at work if I saw someone alone I will talk to her and most of the time the conversation goes well. We won’t necessarily be friends, but at least we know each other.

Since grade school I’ve been that wallflower that nobody wants to talk to. People choose to just spend time with their friends and ignore the lonely.

    • Linda, I’ve been there, too and it’s a horrible feeling. I always approach someone who is alone, strike up a  conversation, and if it is appropriate, invite her to come and join our group. It may just be that she doesn’t know anyone in the room and would benefit from some new contacts.

    • I used to be that wallflower, so now I go out of my way to try to include people.

At work I always used to try really hard to include the new person, but with the amount of turnover we have, it’s just hard to be motivated to get to know the new people.  I’ve got to the point that I don’t bother to learn their name until they’ve been there at least a month.

    • I would go chat with them. Hopefully if I was that wallflower someone would show me the same kindness!

    • I would approach the person and strike up a conversation for sure.  Know that feeling of being the odd man out sometimes, so anything to make that person feel more at ease. happy

    • Yes, it is important to me to talk with a person sitting alone, as they may have so much to add to the conversation and be a breath of fresh air.  I found my sweetest friend of 19 years that way.estaticheart
