Q & A

It’s sad to know that in our area Sears will be closing in June 2014. So many department stores have come and gone. What stores do you miss?

    • I remember going through a Montgomery Ward’s catalog when I was a little girl. When I came to the US I thought Woolworth was a neat discount store. Throughout the years after that about a half dozen Seattle based department stores shut down.

Sears isn’t my favorite store, but I always go there when I’m at the mall. It seems that JC Penney’s will be closing thousands of low performing stores. I love Penney’s. It’s the department stores that have good quality clothing.

    • I don’t really shop at department stores all that much.  However, we miss the restaurant Bennigans.  It was one of my husband’s favorites.

    • The way the Internet has taken over the shopping scene, so many people are not going to stores much, especially during the hectic Christmas season.  I feel bad for those who may lose their job, it is all the sign of the times.

      I liked Bennigans too!

    • I miss Woolworth’s and Montgomery Wards (known as “Monkey Ward” in my grandmother’s circle)

I used to shop at Sears, but never get there anymore.  I loved that you could buy everything from bras to lawn mowers there.  And yes, I’ve gotten both there, and all my major appliances.

    • I hope not soon, but if my lawn mower breaks down, where am I going to get a Craftsman?

    • We have a real shortage of stores here, and everything is in a smaller version than what can be found on the mainland. I used to go to JC Penney but they closed. We had a store called Liberty House which had some nice things but they closed. Now we just have a very small sears and a Macy’s - both with very outdated things. We all believe that our stores are a depository for anything that doesn’t sell everywhere else.
