Q & A

Anyone here in or from central New York state? The company I work for is expanding there and I’d like to know more about the area.  I have a co-worker headed there, and I’ve toyed with the idea of relocating.

    • Yeah.  I’d love to go be in on the ground floor of this.  However, I’ve got a hubby and 2 dogs and 2 elderly parents, and a house.........the list goes on.  I am stuck.

    • Is there a possibility to go there temporarily just to check it out to see if NY is for you?

    • Being from New York State originally, depending on the area they are relocating to....the middle of the state and the western part of the state is quite nice and affordable.  If you are going anywhere near the eastern part of New York, stay away, in fact, run away....the cost of living is exorbitant, NYC is draining the whole state, and the attitudes of big city people...be very wary.  I would give a million dollars to live where you live right now, trust me...but you have to make the choice....Linda has a great idea!

    • Mary, the distribution center, which is where I’d be working, will be in Rome.  Can’t remember the other towns where our stores will be.  I know one property is actually in New Hampshire.

Linda, I do hope to get to work there temporarily as the new distribution center gets set up and rolling, but I would never ever persuade hubby to visit or even consider relocating. I’m sure his company has a presence in that area, they are worldwide, but he won’t even consider moving closer to our current jobs.  That would be too much change for him.........

    • Tulip, I understand your husband’s feelings about any changes many of us just want to stay where they are and don’t want to start life in another state. However, I sense you truly want to be a part of establishing the new distribution center in NY. I say go for it on your own and work there temporarily when given the opportunity. One thing at a time. Your husband can take care of himself and hopefully other family members will help out w/ the dogs, house, and the parents.

    • I like your idea, Linda!  T, Rome, NY is beautiful!  I knew people from that area and it always had a very quaint feel about it.  You would really like it...try it out and see where it may lead you.

    • Thanks for all the input and support!  You ladies are the BEST!

I don’t know what the rest of the summer will bring.  I know in my bones it’s time for a change of some sort.

Years ago, I felt my calling was right here in this tiny town, and it was.  Just as surely as I knew that, I know that call is done with and it’s time for something else, but I don’t yet know what that’s going to be.  If that is New York, then so be it.  But at this point it’s all up in the air.
