Q & A

Somewhat inspired by Tulip’s question:  If a relative who lives in another state is in town to visit his family called you to get together, but you don’t like him, what would you do?

    • Last year my daughter and I were excited to get together with a cousin who I haven’t seen for years. I invited him to our place, we had a lot of catching up, and we went to a small restaurant. Then at his mom’s place he made rude comments to my daughter who he doesn’t know. We were both upset and left.

Then he sent a card mentioning the unkind remarks again and even said that next time he’ll take us to a nicer restaurant. What a jerk and we both don’t want anything to do with him!

    • I think it depends on why you don’t like the relative.  No one here wants a visit from MIL and we‘re very happy to not deal w/ her anymore.

Yet, at some point, we know we‘re all going to have to suck it up.  She’ll complain about: the heat, us not taking her to spend time at the movies (a 40 mile round trip), not taking her to restaurants, complain about how those who work aren’t willing to lose their possible commissions (dh/ds work solely on this)to sit and hear her bitch and why we let our pets sleep w/ us and kiss them more than her.

    • Wild horses couldn’t drag me to see relatives I don’t like.  Not getting together with them no matter what.

    • Carine, I understand the sucking up part when relatives complain and bitch. But it’s never never OK to rudely talk in your face when we didn’t do anything and then to send a card to reiterate the same thing and mention that we didn’t take him to a nicer restaurant.

      Thanks Dianne and Tulip!

    • He sounds like a pompous ass, no, I would not bother to see anyone like that.
