    • I was on my way to work when the planes hit the towers.  I thought it was an accident at first.  Then I got to work and everyone was watching the news and footage and it was terrible.  We were sent home shortly afterwards.

My husband saw the smoke from the Pentagon because he worked in DC at the time.  My brothers, sister in law at the time, and aunt all worked in DC.  I could not reach any of them for hours.  And it took my husband forever to drive home from DC that day.

I worked near an airport and whenever I would see a plane afterwards for a while, I would get jittery.

    • I was outdoors painting my house that morning. It was getting hot out and I came in for a drink of water.  I heard something about it on the radio but didn’t catch all of it, so I turned on the tv.  And then I sat there, and sat there, with the paint drying in the paint brush in my hand.

My uncle flew for united airlines at the time.  I did not know until much later that the flight that hit the tower was his usual flight, but he wasn’t scheduled to fly until the 12th.  The 12th would have been his last flight before he retired, but because everything was grounded, he never got to fly his retirement flight.  Thank God he was not flying on the 11th.  Then again, things may have gone differently with a fiesty western rancher on board that day.  Who knows......

I’ve never asked him if he knew the crew of the plane that hit the tower.
