    • My current computer is a desktop, slow, and needs to be updated. It’s time to get a new one a laptop.

Yesterday we went to check out some laptops. My daughter found a typing test site and I took the test. I wasn’t used to the feel of a flat keyboard and did soooooooo poorly on the test. I corrected all my errors, but the wpm was an embarrassment. As I’m typing this on my keyboard which has a rise I can type faster. Well, when I get a laptop I’ll just have to get used to it.

    • It takes a little time to get used to the laptop, but you’ll get there.

We have an old clickety clackety keyboard at work that drives me nuts.  Going from my laptop to that is like going from an electric typewrite back to a manual!!

As for actual typing speed, I haven’t taken a test in awhile, but it’s usually around 60wpm.

    • Thanks Tulip!

In my teens my first job was as a clerk typist and I remember using the manual typewriter and then later the electric typewriter. Thanks goodness for modern technology. Using carbon paper for duplicates and correcting errors w/ correction tape and whiteout back then was not fun.

    • It’s pretty fast but not sure how many WPM.  I use a desktop both at home and at work so I’m pretty used to the keyboard.

But I took Typing classes in high school and on the electric typewriters.  I also took Shorthand!  Anyone remember that?

Linda, I was a clerk typist too right after I graduated high school and I loved it!  I just enjoyed typing...still do.

    • I never took shorthand because I just wasn’t into that sort of thing, but I’ve always thought it was an awesome skill to have. So cool that you gals know how!

I took typing in HS too.  Was fast enough I got to move up from electric typewriter to the IBM “word processor” which by today’s standards is still a dinosaur.  LOL!!!
