What expression did you hear your mother, grandmother, aunt or other female ancestral relative use that you VOWED you would never use, and yet, it comes flying out of your mouth around the kids/nieces/nephews/grands?
empower, “I WAS NEARLY KILLED THAT DAY!!” girrrrl, i could feel the slap from HERE!
EMPOWER!! LOL! That was good!
My brother is dark skinned and he would get teased sometimes. My grandmother used to say: The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.
My mom would always say I would have a kid like me when I grew up. I did. His name is Joshua.
‘I’m not made of money”
“Shame the devil and tell the truth”
“Because I said so”
“Life is not fair”
“Because I’m the Mom, that’s why”
My Grandma...“Counters are for glasses not Asses“. When we would sit on the countertop in the kitchen. LOL
As i was entertaining the Florida contingent this week and the 13 yo started getting smart and saying “okay, i’m just going to go back home,” i actually heard my mother say, “good, i’ll help you pack.” only problem was, everyone was looking at me, ‘cause it came out of my mouth!!!
I heard all the time “Kids stay in a kids place” also “Kids are to be seen and NOT heard”
and “Do as I say and not as I do”
I used to HATE it when they would tell us that! I did vow to never use it with my girls and I did lol.
"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
Psalmist! LOL! My husband says I make a face that looks just like a smirky face my mom makes.
With me it’s not so much the words as the tone of voice. I just HATE it when I hear my mother’s voice coming out of my mouth.
Tulip
Ooooooooo Teeky my mom used that one too, she also would add The Lord help me to get you here, and the devil will help me take you out.
"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
“Who said that life was easy?”

My mom never told me she’d take me out though.
Empower, my brother told my mom to “pack it up and send it to ‘em then” in response to the starving children in Africa, eat your supper nag line she loved to use. He had to pick himself up after that. Not me, I was a ‘yes mam’ girl, even though all the while on the inside I was the rebel.
Funny how we let things mold us. I love Shad Helmstetter’s books. If you want to learn to reprogram your brain and get out that negative stuff out, he’s got the books for you!
