Would anyone be interested in combined marketing efforts by putting together sampler boxes?
I found this site earlier:

and thought it was the coolest idea. I then posted on one of my blogs....rambling about how we could do a Fab40 sample box if we could get enough participation.
This was what I posted:
.. found this really cool website biz today. "Out of the Box" sampler boxes. I think it was started by one of the contributors. Basically people who want to advertise send free samples to this gal, she puts together sampler boxes each month and sells them for $22 each (free shipping). I thought it was an AWESOME idea... and was wondering if we could do something similar with Fab40 gals and businesses. We could put the proceeds into a special fund for paying it forward... or redistribution to the contributors... or a combo of the two. It would take putting enough samples into the boxes to make them worth purchasing, so that would mean at least 10–12 contibutors per month. I really got excited about it when I saw it, because in my head I have been trying to figure out how we could combine some of our marketing efforts without breaking the bank. I am going to repost this in the questions section to see how many people might be interested.
Yes, I would be interested!
I’m really glad you are keeping your eyes open.
I just keep trying to think of ways to market - I know it is the key to success. I did email the owner at Out of the Box to see how much business her contributors are getting from the sample box sales. If I developed the sample boxes and didn’t treat it as a separate biz where I expected to make money, then I think we could partially pay for the cost of the samples we send out. It would be worth it to me IF it generated future business instead of repeat sample box orders. If we pre-sold boxes we could have confections and cookies included in the boxes. Maybe I should get Yana’s input on whether she’d like to host it on the site, and create a badge for us to all put on our blogs and other sites...
I think it would be a hard sell, I wouldn’t personally buy a box of samples for $22 would you? Really, there are sites that allow you to review samples for free, why pay for samples?
There is a site where for 30 bucks a quarter gives you not samples but full size products for you to use and review. I can’t think of the name of it, but that is a good deal in my mind.
If you guys want to distribute samples, here is what I can do for you. We are launching local chapters all over the country. For instance yesterday we met up in OC. Everyone left with a goodie bag.
It contained the following:
Pureology Spraygell
Pureology Stylinglotion
ELF lip gloss
Sephore Hair bands
Those are all known brands, but I would gladly place your items in the bags instead of the brand names in order to brand your products and provide you with exposure.
Our next event in S.D. is on 19th of February, we are expecting between 50-100 people, if you would like to send your samples, please talk to Stephanie and if it’s not to late she can include your products in the goodie bags.
I hate to be the downer, but you can always count on my honest opinion.
The Out of the Box site lists that most of their contributors include full size ‘samples‘. They are focusing on candles, soaps, confections, lotions, scrubs, etc.
I would be happy to pay $22 for a box with 15 or more decent sized samples, even if they weren’t full size. I am thinking of ordering one of their boxes just to see how they package it. Even if we just sold 20 boxes per month, that would be hopefully 2-5 new customers. Word of mouth advertising is the best, so long term we could hope for those numbers to double as friends tell their friends. The key would be to have a variety of contibutors so we wouldn’t have repeat purchasers getting the same things.
I am going to continue to investigate.
Anybody else have an opinion or interested in particpating? I havent’ gotten a response back from Out of the Box... not a good sign. LOL
