Q & A

I am in desperate need of a new hairstyle!  Where do you get your ideas?  Do you ever just give the stylist carte blanche?  Any suggestions would be moooey appreciated!

    • magazines, movies, tv shows.  there was also a website (help me sisters) where you could upload your picture and try out different do’s to see how they might suit your face.  only give your stylist carte blanche if you trust them 110% and you’ve been satisfied every time.  I learned the hard way NEVER to say “do what you think is best” to my stylist even when i trusted them.  Their perspective is very different from yours, no matter how well they may think they know your tastes. Also, they could just be having an off day!

    • Lori,
I guess it depends on your stylist. Maybe you could post a face/hair pic and Christopher would make a suggestion. I am sure some of the other hair folks would offer their opinion. One of my changes for ‘me’ was that I cut all my hair off. I’ve had it longer than my shoulders for the past 20 years. From my Cancun pics you can see the first step. Then in Dec, I went and got it permed. One day, I’ll get some pics of me taken. I tend to avoid the camera.
Everybody loves my hair (although it isn’t exactly what I envisioned.) I am told it makes me look 10 years younger. woohoo... losing the 40 lbs contributed to that some I am sure.

    • oh, Teeky beat me to it - I was going to suggest [Link Removed]

I used it a while back when I was feeling old and tired and wanted something that would suit my age and my hair and look better than what I had. I Googled hairsyles over 40 and stars over 40 (actresses usually have the latest, prettiest styles)
I got some ideas and then I used the virtual makeover tool - you can actually upload a picture of yourself and try different styles and colors. It helped me to choose one that I liked and that worked for me. I had my hair done the week before Christmas and I love it!

      Good luck!

My brother does my hair. If I come to him with an outrageous style he just gives me stink eye. So I just sit down and shut up.

    • Well, Lori, I have done that once. Our daughter was in cosmetology school. I was ready for a change. I’ve been wearing my new style for about 5 years now. I love it, short and messy, very low maintenance.

    • I have the best hair stylist. I can give her carte blanc and she always makes me happy even when I show her pics she says “Esther, I know what will be great on you“. I still keep going back. She fixed my granddaughters hair color disaster and cut her hair  beautifully also. It has been said that pics are the best but your stylist will know which syle will work with your hair. Lots of luck we need pictures of before and after.

      chinadoll, you are so funny!!

    • Here are some things to ponder before you take one snip:

How long do you want to spend on styling your hair?
What styling tools are you willing to use?
Will you be washing and doing daily?
Will you be using any product in your hair?
What image are you trying to project?
What is your style of clothing?

These are all things to consider before making a change. If you can’t answer them then don’t make any changes. Unless of course you are using your haircut as the springboard to an image change.

      Good Luck my Friend!

    • I’d love to be thin and young enough again to have it spiky-stylish and platinum blonde.  When I was active duty, this is how I wore it and loved it!.

But, when you‘re heavy, it’s my opinion that a super short hair style makes one look heavier.  It’s also important to have a little style to a short hair cut so you don’t look like a boy-girl. I look at ladies my age and older with nothing more than a boys cut and want to give them a little pomade and ask them to do a little fun stuff to jazz their cut up.  Just my two cents!

      What about this?  LOL

    • Hey Girl,

When you are looking at hair designs you may want to take in to consideration that not all styles can be cut exactly like the picture because of the type hair you have vs the type of hair the model has. You might want to have 3 styles with you and ASK the stylist if your hair works for that style. Also I would be specific about ALL the points you like about this cut and make alterations to maybe a different bang, etc. If not,I would be quite clear that you
won’t NO deviations and want it cut exactly like the picture. I guess I am saying to be specific about want you want.
