Q & A

OK, so my 12 year old daughter just got braces and it seems like everything in our frig and pantry (to her, anyway) is off limits except for pudding, cereal, canned fruits...Does anyone have any great nutritious receipes for kids with braces who won’t eat fish or pasta?  Thanks!

    • Dina, I had braces in my late 30’s/early 40’s, and I ate about anything besides stringy foods that get caught badly between the teeth. I found that if I nibbles slowly I could eat just about anything I wanted.

It is that her mouth is still sore? I wouldn’t baby it too much, or it won’t toughen up. But for a couple of days she ought to take it easy.

    • I also had braces later on when I was 28. I ate anything I wanted except for the couple of days after tightening when your teeth are just too sore! Unfortunately I do not cook so I do not have any recipes but I remember eating cottage cheese, yogurt, soup, milk shakes, eggs, rice, & any other soft food I could tolerate. I know she is probably more “picky” seeing that she won’t eat pasta. What kid does not eat pasta!!! lol!

    • That’s true, luvin, I had forgotten about the tightening. I just don’t remember feeling deprived. Where there’s a will there’s a way, right?

    • I had braces for years and years when I was a kid.  The tightening day was always bad and I pretty much stuck with soup, but otherwise I ate anythign and everything.
