Q & A

Has anyone tried bio identical hormones? I just started them and I think they‘re going to help with menopause.

    • I haven’t tried them but heard about them on Oprah. Did you have to take a blood test? Are there risks? I don’t know much about them but I’m thinking about seeing my doctor to learn more.

    • I have never tried them but have a friend in Hawaii that is on them and has been on them for several years. She says they are wonderful.

    • If your friend is on Maui I bet she goes to the same doctor as I do.

Also, I was given the option of taking a blood test but decided not to. The doctor said that since our hormones are all over the map at any given time, it’s really hard to get an accurate read. It’s expensive and not overly effective.

    • After my hysterectomy(age 27), I expierienced weight loss (I weighted 87lb.s) & it caused me to have a lung collapse. Dr. said I had a body fat level of 0 xx% was put on hormones (Estro. & Testost.) Haven’t heard about bio but blood tests a few years ago did show what my levels were. They start w/ a base-line test then after you wait a month they do another. It helps them determine dosage level correct for your body. Haven’t had any in a few years as I had to change Dr.s & the male Dr. said “No” to my hormone Rx’s & B12 shots. Haven’t been back to Gyn in yr.s. They said that since I didn’t have anything down there anymore, no need for them! I disagree!!!!!!!!!

    • What kind of symptoms were you having? Night sweats, trouble sleeping? How long before you started to feel full of energy?

    • I am on them, but not the compounded drugs that most people think of when they hear the term. My patch is a bioidentical form, with the dose determined after a blood test. I get the occasional, extremely mild, hot flash. More warm really, but otherwise no problems. My physician never considered anything but bioidentical.
