Q & A

Is it strange that I don’t watch any TV? What does it say about me? Is there anyone else that does not watch TV? My kids watch, my husband watches some... but honestly, once they are in bed, I just want peace and quiet. I go online for a bit and then I read. Am I missing out on all that much by not watching any TV shows?

    • I dislike TV.....with the exception of the few shows I watch.  I think it is an excuse for reality.  I really could do without television, but dont’ take away my laptop!!

    • Honestly, you‘re better off. So much of the stuff on there is just mindless junk. I have it on sometimes for the background noise but I don’t have the patience to actually sit and watch much of it.

    • There are several shows I like to watch, but I can see how someone would not enjoy TV. Some days I prefer reading or doing xword puzzles. Sometimes, like the gals above, I have it for background noise, like when I am working on candles.

I just hear all the ladies I work with talking about this or that show, taping this, TIVOing that... I feel left out in ways. I don’t think life should revolve around a TV show. If you miss one episode, won’t they show it again sometime?

    • Lately I don’t. Especially since there’s so much interesting stuff on the internet. I was into watching House for a while and a few series on HBO. The minute it gets a little warmer, I’ll be outside after work playing in my yard. It won’t be much longer in New Mexico estatic

    • I have it on for background sound during the day. I must confess I am a politcal junkie. I like to know what is going on in the world and like to keep up with Washington DC. Sometimes I think it is addictive but I like keeping informed. I do like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I use these for brain exercise and learning new things.

    • I never watch TV. Before I got married last summer and moved in with my husband, we had two in our house - my son’s in his room and my daughter’s in her room. They are teens, so I let them make their own choices about TV, but when they were little, they only watched PBS, and then not more than 1 hour per day. Their father loves TV, so when we got divorced I lost a lot of control in that area, but I think I got them started off on the right track.

I never set out to “not watch TV“, it just seemed that there was always something else I would rather do! I love to read.

    • Over the last few years the TV has gotten to where there aren’t any decent shows on anymore. I do like the TCM channel for old B&W movies. A lot of the movies of today are remakes of earlier ones or from books from years ago. ukgirl is right, a lot of our shows are Americanized versions from the UK. I like Sci-Fi channel & some of their’s are former/ current UK shows. Dr. Who & the Eleventh Hour, good shows.
