Q & A

My son is turning 16 years old in April.  We are having a party for him with family and friends.  Has anyone thrown a teen party?  If so, did you have games and what kind?  They will be playing Manhunt when it gets dark, but not sure what else they could do so they don’t get bored.

    • My best friend had a party for her 16 year old, and she let them hang out and listen to music, watch DVD’s etc.   They had a blast.

    • Too much “structure” to the party will annoy the birthday boy and his friends.  It is my experience that this age prefers to “hang out” with nothing in particular to do.  Music, food, friends...they‘re good!

    • Food and stupid music....I don’t think I am going to have a sweet sixteen party.  I can’t take it.

    • I have hosted a couple with a karaoke machine and Dance Revolution (back when it was popular)

Try a murder mystery game where they have to physically participate in. Those are usually fun.

    • We had one for my daughter 3 years ago - we just ordered pizza and had cake. They ‘hung out’ listened to music, etc. We did have a game room with a pool table, foozeball table and jukebox at the time and they had fun with those, but I realize that not everyone has that (we don’t anymore!).

I don’t think kids like structured activities at parties, but if you have some games (Risk, Scattergories, etc.) set them out and the kids can play if they choose.

My best advice is: leave them alone and let them do what they want! (within reason, of course!)

    • what is manhunt? that sounds fun...my kids actually play sharades, and taboo...and like to dance to the music as loud as they can play it...but the most fun thing they like to do is a scavenger hunt, it requires drivers and teams though...but it is a hoot! I even love for them to do that because I will usually drive, and we have to find,  or do all this crazy stuff, for instance one of the things was, put on womens underwear in Walmart and walk around store!  (of course over their clothes!) ...and they have to take pics with their phones for proof! It is a blast
