Did any of you girls have to start out with BELTED sanitary napkins?  Yuck!  I waddled when I walked!  Like wearing a diaper!

    • No, the only time I wore them was after I had my oldest son 24 years ago. And it was quite horrible!

    • They were always sticky during my time, and pretty much I used “the other” protection. But once, in gym, I needed one, and the gym teacher gave me this mattress with two safety pins. I felt like everyone could see the bulge.

    • Yes, I suffered through the horror of wearing a mattress between my legs. With pieces of elastic, hiding in places elastic should not be. To this day I can not wear a thicker pad! I always feel people will be able to see it. What will I do when I need to wear depends?

    • My mother was gone the day I get my first period. I had to go to my dad. He brought me to the grocery store and picked out what I needed. Then tried to explain how to use them. After all that he gave me money for a new outfit. I don’t know who was more embarrassed. To this day 30+ years later we still don’t talk about that day!

    • Yes, how horrible. I started my first period when I was away at summer camp and I thought my life was over! I thought if I had to spend 1/4 of the rest of my life like this, I would just be miserable. It didn’t help that my mom had never talked to me about it - just gave me a book to read. I’m sure she was just uncomfortable and didn’t know how, but I made sure that I talked to my daughter about things!

    • I remember asking my mother about the “birds and the bees” she told me to go look them up in the encycopedia. That always stuck with me. I made sure I answered every question my boys had. I would always be honest but kept it age appropraite. When I talked to them about womens bodies I think they were freaked. Everyday for I don’t know how long they would say is this the day! I am the only women in our family so I guess even bad days to the opposite sex means P.M.S.
