Q & A

My doctor keeps telling me I need to stop drinking so much Diet Coke and drink more water.  Does anyone have any good advice for cutting back on Diet Coke?  It’s my one big vice!

    • My husband has the same problem with Diet soda - if you get a good tip, I would like to hear it too!

One thing he did that helped for a while was to drink the flavored sparkling waters - most stores have a brand. We lived in California at the time and got it at Safeway. They still have artificial sweetener, which is BAD for you, but at least they don’t have the caffeine and all the other additives that are found in soda. They come in lots of flavors and are not too expensive.

    • My SO has the same problem.......I unfortunately don’t have anything to suggest.  I don’t drink diet anything due to the artificial sweeteners in them.....I limit myself to one soft drink a day (if that) but my vice is Sweet Tea .........bad habit......

Perhaps you can try to only allow yourself something “flavored” when you are having a meal.........

      Good luck.

      I like the vodka advice.

    • STOP BUYING IT.

It’s bad for your teeth, your stomach, your kidneys, and contains aspartame.
If you can’t quit, cut down to one per day & drink alot of water with lemon in it.

    • Girl, I’m with you. I love Diet Coke Zero! What I do to cut back is drink more water to soda. If I drink a soda, I drink 2 glasses of water. Eventually you get to the point where you are drinking more water. I also love Green Tea (hot) and I’ll drink it instead of soda.
I think we crave the carbonation more so then the flavor. Because if the soda is flat, it doesn’t taste the same.

    • Just make yourself drink the required water daily 8 glasses. After about a month you will get to where you want the water over the Diet Coke. I know it is hard to believe, but you will. You will also lose weight, you will be surprised!!

    • I am addicted to diet mountain dew.....I know your pain....hey I don’t smoke, rarely ever drink anymore (too busy working), so that is my addiction.  My employees joke cause I always have a can on my desk or in my hand.  I also started working 8PM to 4AM (which means I end up getting out of work around 6PM), so I need the caffeine to stay awake all night and I don’t do coffee.

    • I was addictied to Dr.Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper but since I’m a diabetic, I’ve had to cut down. Now I only drink 1 soda per month and I drink the flavored water. My doctor told me as long as it is sugar free, caffiene free, and sodium free that I could drink as many as I want. And they are really delicious

    • I used to drink regular Coke all of the time. Then I found out that it leaches the calcium out of your bones and I have osteoporosis so I decided to stop drinking it. What is the use of taking calcium pills and drinking Coke! Right. Then when I saw that Coke and Pepsi are  both made with phosphoric acid....which by the way is used in most cleaning products....I really made up my mind to quit! So now I have not had a Coke or any carbonated beverage in 2 years. I drink a lot of water and Propel diluted with water. Once you get past 30 days you will be fine.
