Q & A

How much should my 14-year-old daughter charge for babysitting?  We live in San Diego which is a pretty expensive place.  The family she wants to sit for has three kids ages 4-7.

thanks!

    • My daughter here in the north charged $2.00 for 1 child and $3.00 for two children.  The price didn’t go down when they were in bed sleeping because she was still giving up her time. This was 2 years ago though. Hope that helps.

    • My daughter used to be paid $5.00 per kid per hour, but that is what the parents decided to pay her.

I think for three kids $7.00 per hour would be fair since the ages are alittle more easier to care for. estatic

    • Anywhere from 7 to 10 per hour. If it is a wknd
and she is bringing stuff for them to do, cooking for
them, etc. I would give more. I live in
SD also. My daughter babysat in SD for several years
(now works in SD—adult) and even then was making
at least 10 +/hour. She didn’t watch TV, but took them
outdoors, played games, put on plays, etc.

    • $10 an hour—and that’s a steal.
I also live in SD and have 3 kids who at one time all needed babysitting.  I hired a “professional” babysitter once who charged $20 an hour for a 4-hour time period.  My oldest son then told me the next day that she sat there and watched Judge Judy on TV the whole time and didn’t pay attention to our then infant.  Last time that person was hired!
