    • Hi Dawn and Avalon,

The secret is on the knees, keep them a little bit bend and the move them forward and backward, do it slowly first and tou will see your hips shaking. Then it comes the grace. As a latina I think I had an advantage b/c we born dancing, lol.

    • I have found classes in Tulsa.  Tribal Bellydance is what I am most interested in. Like you  sdahringer  I really love music and the self expression in Bellydanceing is exhilerating.  I had always thought of it as a seductive dance, but in learning it and it’s origins I now understand it’s spiritual healing and expression.   Just LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

    • When I was in  high school, a fitness owner of a fitness center taught belly dancing.  I had sooo much fun back then.  I would LOVE to take it up again.

    • I checked out “Shimmy” on YOUTUBE!  That is great!  I would like some tapes too.  I like Heather Shoopmans classes on YOUTUBE, but Youtube videos are so short and I haven’t got my laptop hooked up to the TV yet.

    • Tribal Dancing!
After experiencing it, this is how I would describe ATS (American Tribal Dancing)
It’s a form of Bellydance that reflects a unified group movement unchoreographed utilizing leader and follower positions and unspoken cues! There is a “flow” that expresses a shared sense of meaning (Spirit) and purpose (Energy). It a celebration of Womanhood and their root to and connection with Mother Earth.
For me it is meditation, prayer, and celebration in motion.
The music moves me into a state of mind and emotion that I can reflect, re-collect and energize. A re-alighning with a spirit greater than self. There is healing and awareness that permeate and create change.
I am drawn to the kinship af the group, troupe, or tribe. That is why I am looking!
