    • I am right-handed.  My son is left-handed when he writes but can use his right hand for other things.  There’s word for it.. ??? Am-ma-dextrix?

Anyhow, in old days, the Chinese teased the lefties.  But some think they are smarter.

In my case, my son can never out smart his mommy.  He is busted too many times by me! estatic

    • I am right-handed. My dad is left-handed and I remember when I was in eighth grade I didn’t complete a project and a note was sent home that had to be signed by my parents.  I didn’t want them to see the note so I forged my dad’s signature and I tried writing it left-handed like him so it would look just like his handwriting. I would have gotten away with it had I only written it once and not kept erasing and rewriting it over like ten times which made the teacher suspicious and call my parents. What a dumb kid I was. I crack up everytime I think about that. estatic

    • I am left handed.  Actually I’m ambidexterous, which most lefties tend to be much more than right handed people do.

I do not write any differently than other people.  I’ve never understood why some lefties have to cramp their hand around like a snail to write.  Very uncomfortable.

It is said that left handed people tend to have higher IQs.  Einstein was a lefty.  Most of the left handed people I know are quite intellegent, even brilliant.

    • The word some of you are looking for is ambidextrous.
      From Merriam-Webster Dictionary
      Main Entry: am·bi·dex·trous
      Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin ambidexter, from Latin ambi- + dexter right-hand — more at dexter
      Date: 1646
1 : using both hands with equal ease
      2 : unusually skillful : versatile
      3 : characterized by duplicity : double-dealing
      — am·bi·dex·trous·ly adverb

I write and do most things with my left-hand. I can also use my right hand for other things. For instance, I bowl with my left, but throw a baseball with my right.

I also believe that I am the exception to the ‘left-handed people are creative’ rule. I don’t believe I have a creative bone in my body...lol

And no, I don’t think differently of those who are right-handed.

    • Brenda65 I’m glad you spoke your mind to the school staff.

My mom also had to speak to the school teacher and principal to ensure they would leave me alone and allow me to write with whichever hand I chose, and of course I chose to write with my left hand.

Do you think most items are designed to the righties?  Which particular items you wish it would also accommodate lefties?

    • Answer to “To those who are lefties“...

I am ambidextrous and have learned to adapt to the right-handed world so well that nothing comes to mind when it comes to an appliance that is made to fit only the right-handed people.

    • Spiral bound notebooks are designed for right handed only.  I used to frustrate the living daylights out of my teachers because I was forever turning in assignments on the “wrong” side of the paper.  Very uncomfortable to write with that metal spiral under your hand!

I thought that business of teachers forcing kids to use their right hand went out of fashion decades ago!  My son is a lefty.  I never had issues with any of his teachers, or any of my own for that matter.  When he was very small he would eat with either hand (and preferably both LOL!).  I just let him keep on using both, but eventually he ended up using just the left to eat with.  He’s now a lefty with very little ambidextrous tendency.

As someone who paints (art), it’s nice to be able to switch hands to get at just the right angle.
