Today is day 4 of my battle with a lingering headache. I’ve taken sinus medications, Tylenol, Advil and even (at bedtime last night) a prescription pain pill to try and alleviate the constant throbbing pressure in my head and eyes, but to no avail.
This morning I woke with dark circles under my eyes and even after several hours (still with the headache, although the pain pill at least allowed me a few hours’ sleep) I never quite felt like I was fully awake.
Mid-morning my husband went and bought an over-the-counter migraine medication, and that finally seemed to do the trick. I am completely wrung out after spending most of the week in pain, and my eyes are absolutely exhausted, but the pain is now gone.
Is it possible I had a migraine? Never having had one before, I’m not sure I would know a regular (but really bad) headache from a full-blown migraine.
Good to see you honey ...... sounds like a migraine honey - you’ve had very hot weather recently and sometimes this can trigger it as the heat affects blood pressure etc;
You feel whacked after for a few days - like your engine is still not full speed ......could also be too much YoVille honey !!!!!
Vicki
Most barriers to your success are man-made. And most often, you‘re the man who made them.—Frank Tyger
Vicki, you‘re absolutely right about the heat. I went outside as little as possible over the last few days because when I did, it felt as if someone was tightening the pressure around my head. My mother and son both suffer from migraines, but I don’t have a history of them.
However, I don’t think there’s any such thing as “too much YoVille“.
When a few hours of rest and tylenol/aleve or similiar does not cure the headache and when it hurts so bad that you can’t function, it’s probably a migraine.
I’ve had migraines since I was 11. One doctor says they are hormone related as they occur monthly and another doctor says no.
I used to stay in bed for a day or two not getting up except for the bathroom. Kept all sounds down to a minimum. Peace and quiet. No light at all. When they are exceptionally bad I throw up.
Tylenol, Aleve, Aspirin, etc. never worked for me. Imitrex worked for a while and now I’ve progressed to Maxalt. I stay away from anything which has caffeine in it and only occasionally have an alcoholic beverage. I love blue cheese dressing but I have to stay away from it as well. Certain cheeses also can bring on migraines.
If you have any headache which won’t go away after a day or two contact your doctor immediately because it could be something else entirely.
High blood pressure brought on by chemo last year sent me into a migraine which wouldn’t go away. By the third day I thought I would die and we went to the ER. Finally I got a shot of Dilaudid and it went away. Got right on a bp drug and, thankfully, I no longer have high bp since I’m no longer on chemo.
Keep a headache diary. Write down what was going on, what you ate/drank the night before or during the day. Bring it with you to discuss with your doctor. Good luck!
I functioned (had very little choice), but I had several long periods where I couldn’t think straight—including broken speech. Fortunately my job allows for me to slip back into my house from time to time and kick back with my eyes closed.
that does sound like migraine. Try the OTC excedrin for Migraine first; then if no help it’s time for the doc. I’m sure some of the stresses, coupled with the horrible humidity, are causing this.
Excedrin Migraine is exactly what fixed my melon. My eyes are tired and hurt like I’ve been crying (ya know that feeling?) but I still feel better than I have all week.
If I have another bout of them, I’ll start with the EM and if that doesn’t help, I’ll definitely schedule some time with my doctor.
Carol, you mentioned hormones can cause migraines. This makes me curious, as my husband and I have been speculating that I’m at the beginning stages of menopause. I’m tucking this little tidbit away for future reference.
really could be a number of things, sounds like alot of things it’s better to get to the Dr. and not try and guess as he can run tests and be sure what the cause and give you something that works instantly. Don’t let yourself suffer like that. Even if it is menopause there are things to take for that. I know I hate to take meds but if it helps I am gona take it, and not suffer needlesly.
Feathermaye, so sorry you were/are feeling so dreadful. I have migraines. Sometimes I can function with the pain, but other times I can do nothing. I agree with Janet about seeing your dr. There are very good prescripts that can help if you start to have them more often. No need to suffer!
If a headache last for more than a few hours, then I would say that its a migrain. If it is intense, and you can not funtion then its a migrain. I take the same medication as Carol does and it works wonders.
Feathermaye,
I used to get a migraine every month on the night before my period started. I’ve also read in women’s magazines that fluctuating hormones can be the culprit.
Sounds like a Migraine to me...I get hormonal migraines 1 week before my period..I also have high blood pressure, which can affect MIgraines by making them feel even worse..Like a giant vice around my brain..I take Fioricet(generic version) is “Butalbitol“. Works like a charm..better for me than Imitrex..I recommend definitely seeing your Dr. if they continue and keeping a log of when you get your headaches, and list any changes in weather too..just til you can pinpoint when you get them..It can provide you with insight as to when they happen. Fluctuating hormones/weather changes/and loud noises are just a few things that can bring on a Migraine..Hope you get rid of the pain..Good Luck
