    • We were both attending a charity function. I was a reluctant guest of a friend and he was a reluctant guest of another. It was not a set up, just a random meeting. I lived in another state. After we met we kept in touch by e-mail and phone calls and were married 7 months later.

    • He leased an apartment at the apartment complex I managed. He had just sold his house from his divorce. He was the only man I went out with after my divorce and I was the only woman he went out with after his divorce.

What is good  about being the manager, I have access to all  information. I could check  out how much he made, savings, credit report, etc. etc.

You know, after being married to the antichrist the first time, I made sure I did alot of checking the second time around.

Thirteen years and going strong!!! Thank you Lord!!!

    • At work. we both worked at a Philadelphia newspaper and met a few times at random...in passing. One night he had a break and brought me a candy bar...too cute. Then my ride home had to leave work early and asked my ( future) hubby if he would mind giving me a ride home since he didn’t live that far from where i lived. He said yes....we worked all night, went out for Bloody Marys and eggs for breakfast, then went right to an afternoon concert my brothers band was playing at...ended up spending that entire day togther ( yes after working all night) and...the rest as they say....is history. We have been together ever since. That was in July 2004.

    • Online dating...Yes sometimes they really do work. I had dated someone I could call ‘the antichrist’ too (thanks Darla) after my divorce (from another ‘antichrist‘..Gosh they‘re so many out there..huh?) and was a little gun shy, but joined a site to chat and meet people...A ‘friend’ saw him first and ‘side bar’ me, thats what we called it..She asked if I had seen jmh...and I was like...no...she said ‘check him  out, he’s foine and got long hair...oooh girl he lives near you’ and I went and checked out his profile..sure enough he was heaven here on earth..and his hair...wow...I sent him a message..he responded..within hours we had switched to yahoo chat...by the end of his work day..we exchanged phone numbers..he called as soon as he had picked his son up from daycare and we talked while he was heading home..while he was cooking...while he got his son ready for bed...while he was doing his ‘side’ work...We fell asleep talking on the phone and did that for about 2 weeks..then we met face-to-face and my life has never been the same since...It brings tears to my eyes remembering...

      Thanks for this post...

I was flooded with responses (men outnumbered women 3:1) and ignored the first few messages from him. He finally got through to me and I agreed to meet him.

After our first date, I came back and told a co-worker, “He’s really hot, and we had a great time, but I just don’t think he’s the one.”

      Boy was I wrong!! ;)

    • Darla, you made me laugh out loud.  That was great.

As for us, we met over the phone.  I was an operator for the local phone company at the time and he called to set up service at his new apartment.  At the end of the VERY long conversation he said, “Well, you’ve got my number don’t you?  I don’t know anyone in town yet but you.”  To which I laughed and replied no, thank you (we were monitored on our calls and that was a huge no-no).

Being the curious cat that I am, and a bit of a rule-bender as well, I called him a couple days later.  That was 1995 and we’ve been together ever since.

    • Well our story is very much like Momogirl’s.
We met my junior year his senior year at high school.
He had just moved back to Texas from Florida. Boy he was so different than the goat ropping boys I went to school with in Canton,Texas.
Doug was tall, long blonde hair, georgeous blue eyes, tan and fresh off the beach. I fell hard for that sexy surfer boy and his beach bum accent.
He had only been at school for 2 months, but we didin’t meet til we both tried out for the UIL one act play. The play was “The Importance of being Ernest”
He was the butler and I was the maid. We talked off and during practices I thought he was cute, but seemed a little flurty with all the girls. Who by the way were also tried of the cow punching boys at our school.
One night I went to the burger place and Doug was there.
Not really knowing how he felt about me,I went up to him tapped him on the shoulder while he was playing a video game. He lost his last man on the game !LOL He spun around on the stool with his fist up because he thouhgt it was his friend. When he saw me he turned really red and smiled really big. We spent evening hanging out at my house watching MTV and talking all night.  We Fell asleep and woke up 2 AM. I took him back to his grandparents house and as I was trying to back out of the curving driveway,I backed my car out into his grandparents ditch. Looking white as a ghost I went to the door, Where I heard him getting chewed out by his grandfather. His grandparents were so sweet and allowed me to stay until the neighbor with tractor got up and removed my car from the ditch. I spent the first night out with him all night. He gave me a sweet kiss ( I was so embarressed I only gave him a little peck back) as I left in my mud covered car and said he would call me after we both got some sleep. I thought there is no way he is going to call that crazy girl, who can’t drive! He called at 6PM and we have been together ever since. Sappy i know but true. I love him even more today after 23 years of marriage and 2 sons later.

      Ciao,
      Bella

    • I was playing pool at the local pub where my friends and I frequented.  He put his quarters up, i won my game and played him...beat him, too!

A couple of weeks later, I walked into the front door of the bar with my friends and he turned to me and said, “Hi, Linda.”  I said, “Hi,” and kept on walking.  I didn’t remember him!!!  I asked several of my friends who he was and no one knew.  Not one to let an opportunity pass me by, i walked up and sat down next to him.. My opener was, “Who’s winning?”  It was a Monday night during football season and my Cowboys were playing the Giants.  He answered, “The damned Cowboys.”  We sat and talked for a couple of hours...all the while i didn’t know his name.  Friends came in and said hi to us but NO ONE said his name!!!  When one of my girlfriends came to tell me she was leaving (she was my ride) i said i had to go.  He told me he’d give me a ride if i wanted to stay.  I told him i’d accept his offer but i had to ask him a question, first...“What’s your name?”  He laughed and told me that when we met, i told him i’d never forget his name.  He then reminded me of the pool game and said his first name...we said his last name in tandem.  It all came back to me, then!  We dated 3 years, became engaged and married a year later...been married 19 years.

    • I love these stories!  Enjoyed reading everyone of them.

I met my husband at a spititual singles potluck.  He was not a member of the group but had just moved back to the area and happened to stop by that night to visit his longtime friend who hosted the event.

The second time I met him I asked him to marry me so I could get my greencard, he said he couldn’t, but he would be my friend.  We quickly became spiritual buddies and hung out regularly for about a year doing fun stuff and having good conversation. We were not dating...I was doing the online dating thing and often shared my dating stories with him. I loved him and knew we would be friends forever. He eventually offered to marry me so that I could get my greencard, but by then our friendship was more important than my greencard so I said no.

A few months later I almost got sent to jail for speeding in VA and he said he didn’t want to have to come down to Trinidad to get me so we should get married. He also said the same feeling of equalibrium that he experiences after a weekend of meditation at the zen monastery was what he felt after spending a day with me.  How could I say no?  I got my greencard and so much more!

December 11 will be 5 years since we’ve been married.
