Q & A

Why are young people too lazy to work?  Anyone else here run into this problem?  Young people seem to feel they automaticly deserve a “good” job that doesn’t involve manual labor.

    • I know a young woman who is 22 who is unemployed as is her 20 yr old sister.  Since I’m overbooked on odd jobs this month, I offered the older sister 2 days work.  Light housework, pays better than anything else she’d find.  She turned me down flat.

I also told her of two people looking for help that I would consider “good jobs” and she turned both of them down because they‘re not where she wants to be working.

Would you as a parent finance this child’s life any further?  I can’t imagine why her mother does!!!!!

    • Therein lies part of the problem. We don’t know why her mother is supporting her. Maybe they have a plan.

At first it seemed like my sons were falling in that category until I actually “listened” to them tell me their goal, aspirations or plan. Now all my children are doing something that suits them individually and I can live with it and be proud and yet they don’t all live with me.

    • I use these two girls as an example of something that seems to be pretty common.  Kids just don’t want to work.  Even the younger kids who put up signs that they will do lawnmowing don’t show up to work when you actually give them a job.  Is there no work ethic left in America?

I work with younger girls ... as soon as I clock in, the disappear!  The very first week I worked there, I was left alone for over 45 minutes ... I am so frustrated ... the managers know this is goin on, I dont see how they couldnt ... my problem is, what to do about it ... I go into work, do my job then leave .. they stand around laughing, gossiping, etc ... they have even said things in front of customers that I would never dream of saying ... it irks me to no end!

    • I don’t find this to be a problem at all with our son...he is more than eager to work and since he was laid off from his construction job earlier in the year, he has started a small landscape business with his buddies and just recently got a job at Staples and he is up and ready to go to work as soon as his alarm goes off...to me it really depends on the work ethic that is implemented in a young person’s life by their parents...my husband and I raised our son to be responsible, dedicated and “on time” to any job that he undertakes...it is sad for some young adults to feel lost in the world today because they can’t quite grasp what their life is meant to be, but with proper encouragement and training they can achieve a proper work ethic.estatic

    • Marya, I don’t find this to be a problem with  my kids either. They‘re all gainfully employed, even the two that are in high school.  That’s what makes it so hard for me to understand this lack of gumption in other kids.

And on another note, what’s going on, why do my replies keep showing up as anonymous until I hit that little star that says “make public“?
