Q & A

Besides church and religious groups, do you support any non-profits groups regularly?  If so, how?  Do you donate money, time, participate in charity events or walkathons, etc?

    • For me, it’s mostly my local church.  In our small community we have trouble keeping the heat on and paying a pastor, so most of my giving goes there.

I also try to support whichever group of kids is fundraising at any given time.

I never donate to huge nationwide groups.  I never know how much of my $ is going to the cause and how much to “administration“.

Basically I try to give locally where there is a need.  Charity starts at home.  My bible study group has started an annual food drive where we challenge the congregation to donate as much as we do to an area food pantry. This has been a huge success the last two years.

    • Amen to Mrs.Jamaica!!!   Your are absolutely right about the biker community.  We participate in lot's of toy runs, veteran runs and benefits.

My husband also donates yearly to the 100 club for killed police officers.  He also donates monthly to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

    • I donate money to our local police, fire and ambulance departments..also local humane organizations which includes the Wildlife Association which without them we would not have the beautiful creatures that God has given us.  The birds are so at risk for many things...bacterial infections being very dangerous to them..the poor house finch can get an infected eye which causes blindness and birds are also at risk if bitten by mosquitoes for example as they can easily transmit and carry diseases throughout the world...so, it is important to help preserve their life...I also donate to the American Cancer Association and our local thrift stores especially Salvation Army as they have helped countless people in need.happy

    • I was a voluntary peer counselor for three years at our local CareNet Pregnancy Center, which offers free testing, ultrasound, layette, mentoring, housing and job placement assistance, guidance to adoption agencies and post-abortion counseling to women (and men) who have a crisis pregnancy. They offer every alternative to abortion. I now support them financially.

    • Oh I forgot I always donate my clothing to Goodwill rather than a garage sale.  Which reminds me I need to take that box of jeans sitting by my door tomorrow!
