Q & A

Have you let yourself go?

I’d have to answer yes to this one.  I used to be the gal that “did” my hair everyday and “put on my face“.  I used to “watch my weight“...that seems to be a losing battle as of late. Since dealing with a chronic illness I’ve found it harder to do all the maintenance things I used to do.  Now I’m allowing those grays to scream out a little longer between coloring.  Is it just me or is this a natural progression?  I really want to put my best self forward for my man and for myself.

    • I’ve let myself go as well.I have chronic pain too.And I just dont have the umph to get all fixed up ,I’ve tried and tried to lose my weight to no avail.Cut my hair short in a style that all I have to do is brush it.If I know we are going somewhere for something then I will add a little makeup ,just enough though to say okay I made an effort.
I’d be interested in knowing if theres more of you and I out there.Trying to do all these things  is just a huge effort anymore.

    • Yes, more and more I stop bothering, I shave my legs when I’m going to the dr’s, yet I wonder why I bother shavig for them...lol...I don’t bother much with putting my face on, it ends up being a waste of makeup...I live in my PJ’s, I shampoo& condition my hair and don’t even bother combing through it, I just tie it up or clip it out of the way. I am not working and I don’t have anyone to impress (I don’t count)every once in a while I go through the motions, then end up thinking I just wasted my time primping...

    • On weekdays, especially if I am busy, I throw my hair back in a headband, throw on a t-shirt and shorts or yoga pants and wear no make-up..shower and go is it.  On Friday night I come alive, hub wants to see me glammed up and ready to roll...and the rest of the weekend I take time on myself.  It is definitely much more of a chore I think as we age because there are pain issues, menopause issues, sleep deprivation issues, etc..it all adds up.ohhhh

    • I probably dress nicer than I used to, but I’ve let myself pack on a lot of pounds.  when I’m feeling unhappy with my life I tend to eat.

Can’t afford much in the way of skin care products, so I’m really beginning to show my years in my face.

    • Yes I have let myself go..alot! I use to dress up every weekend even If It was just to hang out with my friend or go to the store, I would dress up wearing skirts and nice blouses and sandles with heels with all the matching jewlery. Now I wear t-shirts and jeans and tennis shoes. I hardly ever wear jewlery anymore, I still put make-up on, I mean I wouldn’t want to look totally scary, and If I’m just at home, forget It, my hairs a mess, I’m walking around In my pj’s half the day and no make up. I think It’s because I have gained some weight and It’s making me feel less good about myself.

    • Yes I have let myself go. After my Mother passed a few of life’s hardship I was tired. Now I am sturggling to rediscover myself. I have discovered that I miss being the activite gal that I was, working out, working on me. I accomplished more, looked better my dogs were in better shape. Spending more time motivating me while living my current life ir rough, but I am making the effort and it feels good.

    • I have in a way, but I am trying to get back on the ball. All the weight that I have gained has kind of depressed me. And when I was ill over the summer, I was too tired to do anything. I looked in the mirror the other day and decided this has to end.

    • Well I do my hair and makeup daily, shave regularly, and I don’t wear sweats.
However I don’t get my hair colored as often, I get manis/peddis about every 6 weeks vs every 3, I certainly don’t wear the clothes I used to since I don’t work. Even tho it’s been a year I’m still trying to figure out that casual elegant stay at home look that does NOT involve sweats or lounge type clothes.
I’m pretty sure my hubz would like to see something other than flip flops.....

ok ok, seriously, I try to keep myself looking good. Somedays it can be hard when my energy is gone. But, I make up for it on the days I am doing well. Being that I can only shower when someone is home, it is done at night. So after that i’m in my pj’s. lol But they are cute pj’s. estatic

Hubby does my hair dye, so no grays here. lol

    • I fixed myself up a little yesterday before Matt got home and you know what “He Noticed“.  He said “Wow, you look pretty“.  I said I do!?  I’m surprised that he noticed....I just let my hair be curly instead of trying to straighten it and I put on lipstick...I was a wearing a “cute” shirt and capris.
Wow...he noticed and it made him smile.  I’ve got to make more of an effort.happy
