    • I know the feeling about bananas, but I eat them semi-green, that’s the only way I can get my potassium and not get that ewww feeling.

Having relatives from the South, I have spent a lifetime turning down anything that doesn’t look like (or smell like) normal food, like cow brains, pig tails, chitterlings (that’s hog intestines all together now—ewwwwww!), tripe, okra in stew (slimy), tongue, kidneys and anything that is looking back at me on the plate.

    • In my case, due to my culture and background, texture does not bother me much.  However, I cannot eat slimmy stuff like Okra, oyster (raw), octopus (raw).

I do not like onions due to the after taste.

Yes Vicki, some of my friends do not enjoy Tofu for they think they are eating a block of fat.

    • Absolutely!  Menudo is popular down here in Texas but NO* *WAY  would I even taste it due to the contents.  For those that don't know, the main ingrediant is called Tripas which is a cow's stomach lining.  Can you say gross!!!!

    • lol Angelcart, I love Menudo, I can eat that everyday. Especially during christmas time my Grandma makes homemade Menudo with pigs feet. Yummy!! on that note

I cannot think of anything that I don’t like because of the texture. Maybe the smell would keep me from eating something or If I had tasted It before and It grossed me out.

I guess it’s what were brought up eating.  Also, I would never eat liver and onions.  Yuck!

    • Tripe , liver and kidney , pigs trotters are big in Northern cooking and I have never eaten them plus a very local dish called black pudding which is  just animal fat with blood  - people have this with a cooked breakfast of fried eggs, sausages, bacon and mushrooms and grilled tomatoes ....... this thing then oozes on the plate blood.
It's a wonder I'm not veggie due to this type of food since childhood I used to dread going to other kids houses in case I was given this as supper – as we were drilled into eating everything on our plate when we were guests .......

Annie that's funny grossing folk out on the Tube – always amazes me what people eat at rush hour on the underground ...... never a sandwich or a burger – sat next to a guy once with Chilli and rice ....it stank to high heaven

There are other foods I’m not fond of, but not so much for the texture.

And of course, I dont eat any other animal organs as well.  It’s just ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

    • Fran,

During the holidays that’s the only time I eat pig’s feet. I believe if they‘re served with black eyed peas, it’s supposed to bring you good luck in the New Year. That may be a crock of bull, told so that people would actually sit down and eat some.

That menudo with pig’s feet? Sounds marvelous! FedEx me over some come Xmas time! LOL

      All,

I guess I’m not as squeamish as most because I will eat peaches (you can always peel them), apricots, mushrooms, strawberries, liver with mushrooms and onions (it can’t be well done, it’s absolutely rubbery when over cooked), lamb, buffalo, and bell peppers (except the green ones, they repeat on me big time). I can’t do asparagus, lima beans or artichoke either, but if someone cooks a pot of mustard greens and cornbread, they would have to keep an eye on me because I would eat it ALL!

The other day, I was served a piece of coconut cake, and I was able to eat it because the cake itself was so good!
