Q & A

Boomers have stuff they don’t ever use in garages, closets, etc.  What could you donate to help someone else in great need?  Where charity, local or national, would you donate these items to?

    • I never did a garage sale - so for some selfish part of me, I want to try one first.  Then anything does not sell, I will donate to my local church - they have a thrift store and is in a poor Mexican neighborhood; or to Catholic Community Services where they help out the refugees who have nothing.

    • When I first moved into my new apartment, I noticed a clothes bin in the parking lot of the local supermarket. However, I had other things like appliances, books, bedding, and dishes. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund has a truck that comes around and picks up donations, so twice they have rolled up and carted away 8 bags of clothes, five or six boxes of small, working appliances, lamps, radios, books, sheets, blankets, comforters, shoes, and my favorite (sob) turquoise suede boots, which after surgery on one foot, are too narrow for me to get into. They will probably come around in December, and I'll have more for them by then.

    • The kidney foundation calls and comes through once a month. I donate clothes that my family no longer wears, toys , and anything extra I may not need.
