    • Unfortunately, for many individuals and families, the struggling economy has hit MUCH closer to home than anyone anticipated, including my family.  My husband was working for a large commercial construction company, earning excellent income, worked steady in the construction industry for over 25 years to suddenly go into work and discover that he was getting laid off.

His supervisor provided a two day notification.  Without informing my husband, his former supervisor terminated our medical coverage.  Our lives our forever changed......

My hope is not in the world or what the world offers, but instead, my hope & faith is in God.  With God, all impossibilities amazingly become POSSIBILITIES!

If you or a loved one is in the same boat as us and out of work, stand strong in your faith to get you through this storm.  No matter how challenging your situation, God has a plan for each one of us just as His word says in Jeremiah 29:11.

It states, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper and give you hope and a future.”

    • Did his company terminate the insurance plan for the entire company?  If not, your husband should be offered COBRA.  The premiums for this coverage have been lowered due to the economy.

    • Hi Doreen!

The company did not terminate the insurance plan for the entire company, only my husband.  We checked into COBRA and it is less than what it had been, but it is still expensive for families that may not have extra income.

We are looking at all options right now.  I have an interview this week so I am going to look into the benefits.

The one good thing that I have found out is that many pharmaceutical companies have special programs to provide medication to low income families.  If anyone needs more info about it, just ask me because there is so much available that most people do not even know about.

    • Does your state offer any type of health insurance or assistance if you qualify? If your husband is on unemployment check to see if there in health insurance through there. It is nice that the companies offer medication assistance. They do not in MA though because it is mandated we have health insurance.

    • Dana, coincidentally, China Doll posted a question last week about a Christian based medical cost sharing option. I think this was the link she posted. It’s in the question section of the site from about a week ago.

I’m sorry your family is facing these challenges. I know that it’s so hard for so many people right now. It was terribly unfair of your husband’s company to terminate coverage on such short notice.

    • Yes, I was laid off earlier this month, I’ve yet to receive any COBRA information, all I know is I have to find a way to afford this as I need another surgery and I have kids with asthma...the economy has affected so many people...it is quite sad, good luck on your interview.

    • Yes....COBRA still is very expensive unfortunately.  Not to start a political battle here, but if there was universal healthcare here, this would be a non issue for many.

Anyway I am looking so very hard for a job. I almost want to give up I am starting to feel depressed.
