What would you do if $800 unexpectedly showed up in your checking account, but you had no idea why it was deposited?
I would call my bank and request more information. I would feel miserable if someone (some young couple, single mother, elderly fellow...I would spend too much time thinking of the person this belonged to...) deposited their payment into my account by mistake. I would not spend the money. I would be sure there was an explanation.

Rings familiar. I made a rather large deposit (5 digits) to my company’s checking account last June. I didnt reconcile the account for 3mths. Boy was I pissed off and shocked that the money was deposited into somebody elses account and never said anything. It was rectified but I was still annoyed.

I would have to contact the bank right away. That could be someone’s last $800.
I’d be at the bank asking what’s going on!
I recently had $45 mis-deposited and didn’t know anything about it because I didn’t look at my statement. I also didn’t look at the account # on my deposit slip. Luckily it was caught on the other party’s statement and everythign corrected.

This happened to me once. Years ago, someone had some stolen deposit slips with my account #and they forged my hubbys name, ( To this day I think it was his EX ). They deposited $200 each time and got cash back. It turned out no deposit was being made but each cash back they withdrew was coming from my money. They stole about $800. Finally when the bank figured it all out , they refunded the $800.
I don’t know. Would anyone like to deposit $800. in my account and then I will let you know!!! hahaha...Just needed to put a little humor out there. Sorry
As a former banker, I can tell you, if it’s not yours, don’t spend it! The error will be caught eventually and you will be responsible for what ever you have spent. No excuse. I’ve seen it happen too many times to count.
