Q & A

Have you ever delayed going to your yearly physical due to gaining weight? I was recently complaining to a friend, who works in the medical profession that I was dreading going in due to not having lost the weight I was suppossed to. My friend told me that when this happens to her, she just cancels the appointment, or reschedules with a new Doc. I asked several of my friends who do the same. Truth be told, I delayed my appointment.

    • I am always delaying my appointments with my doctor because of this..lol, I don’t want to have to hear another lecture from him about me gaining weight or not losing enough weight, but I do know he means well and I should know better, but I just don’t want to hear It, so yeah I am one to delay going to the doctors. I can only do this for so long before they start calling me.

    • Well first I would never cancel and reschedule with ANOTHER doctor.  I find (1) doctor that I’m comfortable with and that I feel is a good physician and stick with them.  You can always refuse to weigh.  They can’t make you get on the scales unless you are prescribed medication based on your weight.  I have a good friend that is on the heavy side and she hasn’t weighed in years.

    • My Doc is 87 years old! Been my physician for 12 years, and she hasn’t scolded me about my weight gain yet (Apparently for my height, I am at my optimum weight, I just have a thing about having a gut). She doesn’t even scold me about my smoking. But she is all up in my face about my bad cholesterol.

I know she’s bound to retire soon, but I hope she hangs around for a long time because the younger doctors are not very thorough and this lovely lady, who graduated medical school 5 years before I was even thought of LOL, doesn’t miss a trick and stays up on a lot of things I wouldn’t expect her to be up on. Talking to her is like talking to a friend, or better yet, a bartender! Some docs are through with you in 15 minutes. I’ve been in her office an hour and 15 minutes, last time since I was her last patient for the day, an hour and 45 minutes!

    • I would never cancel/reschedule because of that reason.  I have some poundage to lose but that is my doctor’s job to tell me to lose it.  If she didnt, I wouldnt respect her as a medical professional.  I do however, look for any opportunity/excuse to reschedule a pap smear and/or a mammography.  I know, you can scold me.  I promise, Im going very soon!!

      xoxo
