    • Well, I am in chain store hell living in the ‘burbs..and I am being sarcastic..surrounded by the same types of stores...arts and crafts, big clothing stores, shoe stores, dollar marts, not to mention the “Mall“...the only ones I do like are the small cafes or intimate boutiques..wish the small businesses would come back, but I know with the economy.

    • Because I used to travel so much I relied on the consistancy of chain stores and resturants. However I prefer locally owned and run stores. The problem with them tho is that they tend to charge more for the same stuff. But even tho I still prefer to support my local vs big box!

    • I hate Walmart and would LOVE to see them go out of business.  It would NOT put people out of work.  Those people that work there all had a job somewhere else before WM came to town.  (Just talking about the town where I shop, I have no idea about other parts of the country).   I do not shop there, I will pay twice the price at the hometown hardware store before I’ll buy something at wm.

Small business can’t succeed if we as consumers don’t make a concious effort to support them.

    • I love hometown hardware stores. They have everything! I went to one in Wyoming with a friend of mine and she bought her dishes there, her plants there, and even her favorite fried chicken coating mix there. The place was like going back in time and it was wonderful.

I don’t like the way Costco tries to carry everything. Our local cheese shop has been hurt by Costco, our bakery went out of business, one of our wine stores went out of business. Our island is too small for all the big box stores. We have Costco, Walmart, Kmart, Home Depot and Lowes. Hard for anyone to compete.

    • Hmmmm......I really don’t know which big store I’d like to see go out of biz.  If I don’t like it then I don’t shop there.  I really like shopping at Dillard’s.

    • I’m with you, Angelcart.  I always shop at Dillard’s first.  It’s my favorite. And I like Coldwater Creek.

But definately not a fan of WalMart, although I understand why their business model is successful.  It’s consumer driven, so apparently, there are lots of us who like shopping there.  Such a shame how that corporation has changed the marketplace.  Crushing it’s competition has actually hurt consumers in small towns.  Wish the public could understand that and boycott the company.

I cant think of any one that I would want to see go out of business, at least not in this economy.  Just would be more unemployed people.

      tongue outtongue out
