Q & A

Do you think out of the box?  I always have, and it appears to get people agitated because I think differently than they do.  I embrace it!

    • Yes, I think a little differently too.  My ideas and opinions are often viewed as harsh and stir people up.  I also seem to have passed that habit on to my daughter who loves to get people stirred up.

It’s amazing how it brings the ‘fakers’ the ‘haters’ and the ‘green eyed monsters’ to the surface. That’s a good thing. When people around me at work are cowering in their shoes, I remain unflappable. I’m known as the dragon lady, and have scorched many who have crossed into the point of no return....

    • Dealing with diversity is very challenging for many people.  Diversity of thought, in my opinion, is one of the biggest challenges - esp. for those who consider themselves to be an expert in a particular area.

Good for you for allowing your brain to be open to new ways of thinking and for expressing yourself in ways that can challenge others’ ways of thinking.  Remember though, it isn’t always what you say that challenges people but also HOW you say it!

    • I was at a workshop  not too long ago and the talked about people mainly wanting to stay in their circle and encouraging others to step outside. I felt really out of place because I have never been good at being in the circle life is too much to offer, so I guess that I am outside the box

    • Its funny, but as I was reading down the string of responses I occurred to me that everyone sees themselves as “outside the box”  then Melissa asked the question that  I was thinking  “who determines what the box is?”  and where exactly are the boundaries of this box?  hmmm...

I know the phrase is used in management to refer to, and encourage innovative thinking, new ways of doing things, creative problem solving, producing unconventional ideas that can revolutionise the work place environment or product development.  These are the people that push their way to the top and are generally viewed as strange or non-conformist.  They are sometimes hated or resented but at the same time respected and valued for their abilities, contributions and ideas.

I am guessing that in the day to day environment it is someone who does things differently.   Hmmmm...

    • Venus...I was thinking the same thing.  What determines the size of the box and what is the box?  Heck...I don’t know...I think that I might think INSIDE THE BOX and OUTSIDE OF THE BOX.....whatever that is...

    • For example, whenever I had to look for a job, I developed creative ways to find one. I cut through the competition and was offered several job offers—I didn’t have to call them; they called me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I got an good quote in an email the other day:
“The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.”

I’ve always thought that those people who find thinking painful are the ones trapped inside the box.
