Which is better,(or perhaps more professional; Obama using as telepromter or palin checking notes written in sharpie on her hand?
You are comparing the President with someone who doesn’t hold office. You are really elevating her to a high level. Interesting.

Actually, I didn’t make the comparison. Sarah Palin has made several critical remarks about Obama needing to use a teleprompter, and then before an interview on a morning show she wrote notes on her hand and checked them during the interview. And in a speech last night she had notes on her hand again. The question has been floating around the internet today and I wondered if anyone here was interested in discussing it!
Um..I would definitely have to say professionalism over cheat sheet hand.

There is nothing wrong with reading a teleprompter. Reading notes off the hand is silly and, I agree, juvenile.

I just think it is funny that all these people who don’t like Sarah Palin give her so much power by comparing her to the President. Many public people critize him and you don’t see them being compared to him. To me, it is just validation that she is a contender for his replacement (regardless of whether or not you like her).
Either way, I’d much prefer someone who jots down a few notes than someone who wings it and makes constant mistakes - like Joe Bidan. Funny how we don’t compare her to the Vice President - who was in fact her contender.
...just an observation (and my answer)

My thoughts from the UK - she scares us .....she is so not into international politics and you need someone who understands the nuances of international diplomacy on a big level ..... we are all one village now like it or not .....

I have written on my hand forever. As an ER nurse for years, paper towels, hands, whatever is handy works for me. (I mean what is always readily available when a light bulb moment hits? HANDS!) Teleprompters, however, are not used for notetaking....they are used to help you not screw up and stick to a scripted speech...helpful but showing very little trust in yourself not to step in that big steamy pile of
you know what
. Teleprompters are for the faint of heart...a gutsy woman isn't afraid of the vitriol that follows when she writes on her hand. And Yes, I have had people laugh when I've done it...they obviously, don't have brains that get ahead of finding a piece of paper and a pen.
I have to agree with Georgiamamasita on this. Where would the president be if his telepromter failed? Does he know what he’s talking about without it?
As for the issue of internation politics, Obama had no more experience going into the job than Palin does.
Who cares if Sarah Palin writes a note on her hand? All she had listed were topics to be sure to cover. She didn’t have anything she was actually going to say written down. It isn’t juvenile, it’s practical. If she would have walked out with a post-it in her hand, all hell would have broken loose!! To be so nitpicky about Sarah Palin and every little thing she says or does is what’s juvenile. I love Sarah Palin’s sense of humor when it comes to being criticized over every little thing she does. After this little meltdown she wrote “Hi Mom” on her palm.
I also agree with Annie, Georgia & Tulip.
I would be worried about someone who can’t remember 3-4 points more than 15 minutes. That is an indication of someone who either a) has a really bad memory or b) doesn’t really know her subject matter. Either does not bode well for a potential leader.
Teleprompters have been used for 25 years now. It is the given. Everyone uses them to keep them ‘on point‘...not to keep them ‘tied’ to the written speech. Every speech maker goes off topic sometimes. A teleprompter helps them get back to ‘the message‘. If we didn’t have them, we’d have those long rambling 3 hours speeches that happened in the past. Which president was it that rambled so long at his inauguration address that he caught pnemonia and died?
One other thing, I think it is great that Sarah Palin doesn’t need a speech writer in order to make her point. Everyone brings notes, in business as well - who cares how she does it. She is a real person which I am more than happy to see. I’m sick of these intellectual elitests that are so out of touch with the people - so I welcome this.
And while I’m at it, as a woman, I am happy to see a women who is gaining so much power that she is compared to the president. We’ve come a long way baby!!!

Now she (Nancy Pelosi) is someone who needs to get more negative media attention!!!

I agree with Annie. Its silly to compare Sarah Palin with President Obama. The woman is way out of her league.
She does provide us with much entertainment however. The comedians just love her.
Without Palin politics would be quite dull at the moment.
The sharpie notes on her hand is a classic!!
You‘re funny Venus, and absolutely correct! Unlike Obama (and many other politicians):
She is in touch with the people and not sitting on some high chair looking down her nose at everyone.
Definitely not the same league at all. She’s a real person and its refreshing.
LOL

What a great question!
I don’t like Palin, as a woman I am insulted by her and as a woman I am affraid of HER being in any office. But I really don’t care about teleprompters or hand notes. I prefer to just hear themessage in any way that makes the speaker comfortable. Nothing worse than listening to a speaker on any subject fumble.
Plain compared with The President or The Vice-President? Are we for real?
Annie if you want to get my husband fired up bring up Pelosi. He can’t stand her. Did you happen to see on TV Biden’s response (can’t recall which cable show it was on) but his answer about the movie Avatar. Classic! It took him about 2 minutes to come up with the name - he did a 360 around the question. Pretty funny (and sad at the same time) LOL I’m not perfect by any means’s, don’t claim to be but then I’m not in public office!
Well, a few more elections and Nancy can easily lose her power. As I always say... it’s the beauty of our country - it belongs to the people and if the majority of the people aren’t happy, they will change things.
As for Obama vs. Palin vs. Biden or whatever, we will see over time who the public has confidence in, who will mess up, who will gain/lose popularity, etc. At the very least, it makes for an interesting discussion.

I just wish Obama knew how to pronounce the words that he reads off of the teleprompter, especially military terms. His “corpsemen” fau paux is reminiscent of Bush’s “new-que-ler” dialect.
Consistenly reading from a teleprompter definately undermines my trust in the wisdom of my President. Reliance on notes kept on an index card, sticky note, or hand gives me much more confidence that the speaker knows his/her subject than watching someone read a speech off of a teleprompter.
I think Pres.Obama does pretty well at press conferences ...no teleprompter there. He speaks off the cuff and sounds pretty well spoken, thoughtful and intelligent.
