    • My top six tips are:

If you aren’t in the mood for cleaning, commit to ten or fifteen minutes. Set a timer and go as fast as you can for the time selected. By the time you hear the bell, you will be motivated to continue cleaning.

If you haven’t used  or worn it in a year, donate it to someone who will use it.

Plan a reward for the project you have been dreading. A nice bath, mani/pedi is always a great bribe for me to get going.

Boost your energy by playing some music or lighting a candle with an invogorating scent.

Write up a task list to prioritize your cleaning. Just crossing off completed tasks will motivate you to do more and notice what you have accomplished.

Don’t start something you can’t finish. Instead of focusing on an entire room, concentrate on a part of the room such as a drawer or a closet. That way you will never have a room that looks like a tornado struck.

      Happy spring cleaning!

    • Frist thing I do is get rid of things I have not used.  I like to freshen my look when spring comes.  I also like to try new spring recipes and go to the outdoor markets.  I just love spring.

    • I’m with Renee.  Usually my answer to spring cleaning is to go outside and work in the yard and shut the door on the house.  Out of sight, out of mind.

    • Esther and Vikki- I would hire someone, but I am such a control freak that I would clean before they came over. A long time ago, I actually used to have a cleaning lady. It was a relative of one of my friends who needed the money. She ended up firing me as a client since I cleaned before she came over!

    • I would start with the curtains and the windows. Since I’m still unpacking I have no idea where any of my old curtains are for the kitchen, and the thermal ones look so nice when you first put them up. I have to climb on chairs and tables to get to the rods, and that part I hate.

Max0125, that sounds like you’ve visited FlyLady.com, if you said get dressed to clean, I would have said yup that’s FlyLady’s words of wisdom!

    • I hate clutter. So I do my cleaning twice a year. Spring and Winter. My motto, if I have not touched it in a year, it’s got to go.

I also change over my curtains. I love the sunlight coming into every room.

    • Great list!

I actually strip down the walls (pics, curtains, etc.) wash down my walls, wash the windows, vacuum the furniture in whatever room I’m doing.  Then, put it back together.

Totally can relate to cleaning for the cleaning lady - which I’ve never had.  My grandparents did because they both worked.

It’s all worth it.  Love a fresh newly cleaned room!

Of course, no one is allowed in that room for at least a week!

    • As someone who cleans as a business, I would say take one room at a time. I usually take the smallest room that needs the least amount of work done first. I get too detailed so for me this is the best. Finish that room and go to the next. You can clean your whole house in about 3 hours and that is really clean.
