How much do you spend on your haircut and color, and what is your biggest hair gripe?
The reason I ask is that ShopSmart recently polled their users about hair.
here are the results:
19% of women love their hair, 41% like it, 5% dislike it, 4% hate it and 30% are neutral
49% have naturally straight hair, but 10% of them style it curly
23% have naturally curly hair, but 19% of them style it straight on average, women pay $39 for a haircut and $65 on salon color
53% regularly color their hair
On average, women spend 15 minutes or less styling their hair, and wash it 4 times a week
I wash my hair 4 times a week and spend about 100 dollars every 6 weeks to color and trim.
I wash my hair every day. Being so lazy I get my hair coloured and trimmed every 4 months or just before I go on a trip. Then I get a whole body overhaul. Always a good excuse
I spend only around $80 each time, but that includes my brows and tips
I gave up on getting it colored at the salon just could never get the right color - so I color it myself ( get compliments all the time on the color ). I get it cut every couple of months - I found an amazing gal believe it or not at Fantastic Sam’s - I think with a tip I pay $30 - I also think it is very important to use good shampoo for the healthy of it.
LOVE my hair
I just spent $50 on my color - if I had cut it too it would have been $90
I spend $150 on each cut/color. I go to an Aveda salon and I absolutely love the way the stylist cuts and colors my hair. I just wish it didn’t cost so much...
My biggest gripe? I can never get my hair to look like the stylist does. I always leave with a fantastic style and can never duplicate it. I am “hair challenged“...
I spend around 130 to get my hair colored, highlighted and trimmed about every 3 to 4 months.
I wash my hair every other day
My biggest hair gripe would be the fizzyness, especially during summer, I will start to sweat under my neck and then my hair starts to get frizzy and looks bad.
I like my hair. It is naturally wavy. I get it cut about every 8 weeks (when my bangs get in my eyes or my mustache is noticeable!) I pay about $40 for a cut and waxing. I get a perm once a year in the spring for about $60.
I used to pay close to $125 for my hair but noticed that they did a half ass job so I would have to return in 6 to 8 weeks. When I do my own hair, I spend about $20, and it lasts for almost 4 months. I like to condition it every 3 weeks and treat it to a hot olive oil and avocado treatment every 2 months.
I noticed a lot of gray when I did my hair this past weekend, it’s time to select a summer color!
I get my hair trimmed once a year. I had it done in February and it cost me about $20 at walmart. I wouldn’t normally go there for anything, but the young stylist who I was a model for works there, so I went to her.
I color it myself. There’s no way I could afford having it done in the salon. With all the hair I have it would be outrageously expensive. So, about $10 for a box of color, less if it’s on sale.
No complaints about my hair at all. I love it.

I have my hair cut every 4 weeks at $32.00. Highlights every 3 months at $70.00 and only a root touch up every 3 months at $50.00. I get the root touch up then following month highlights. I have not colored my hair yet. I just get the roots done for the few grays coming in. My hair is wavy and curly and has mind of it’s own. I would like to have straighter hair.
Wow, Bernadette, your hair is just gorgeous!
I used to do all the stuff, the expensive cuts, always coloring, all that. After awhile, I just got tired of it, plus I seldom liked the professional cuts I was getting.
So - now I cut my own hair. It’s just a bob with bangs, and my hair is quite thin, so it’s easy to do. I was using drug-store hair color, then switched to henna because most drug store hair color is tested on animals, and now I’ve let it grow out into its natural color. Turned out to be white.
I’m at a point now where I love my hair. It’s easy to care for, I don’t have to worry about roots any more (or using animal tested products - and the henna was great, but it is quite the mess when using it on gray or white hair), and I cut it when I feel like. With a few volumizing products, it looks okay most of the time.

I’m overdue but the color & highlights she gave me really hides the gray pretty good.
About 3 months ago I switched hairdressers because the girl (Mike & I both went to) we felt she gets high & even though she did a good job her loud talking & catty talking about people, I just couldn’t take anymore. He still goes to her.
She charged me about $65 for cut, color & highlights. This new one charges $100.
The second time I went to her she gave me a cut that I LOVED, went back for a trim & she cut me WAY too short! That’s one reason I’ve delayed another appt so it can grow in a little.
In general, what I don’t like about my hair is I have these little hairs around my hair line that don’t grow?? And I have just a little wave to my hair that when I was younger, I wished it was curly and now I wish it was straight.
A few years back, I decided to let my gray grow completely in. It did nothing for my confidence & everyone kept saying, your face is too young for all gray/white yet. So, after about 1.5 yrs, I did color again & am so glad I did.
Some women look great with the gray, but I guess I just am not ready for that yet.
If that’s the extent of my problems today, I guess I’m doing pretty darn good.

My biggest gripe is that my hair is NOT what it used to be! Meaning it is dryer and a little more thin than it used to be.
I spend about $40 on a cut every 8 weeks or so and about $100 on color. Unless I go home (to MI) than I can get it done for free by my sister or friends.
Being from the industry I won’t do my own!

I go to Mimi for cut and Bruno for colour and I love both and no I’m never admitting how much I pay - will admit I pay cash and use different ATM machines so the accountant doesn’t know !
I’ve been going to the same girl (this is her 2nd salon to own) and she cuts and colors for $55.00. I have a friend who owns a really nice salon (they give you wine, they even do botox their!) and she said she wouldn’t touch my hair for anything other than $150 min! And that is why I don’t change!
My only complaint is I’ve noticed it’s getting a little dryer than it used to be.
I have had the same wonderful hair-stylist friend for the last 21 years..she has been with me through crop haircuts, shoulder-length and permed, jaw-length bobs..my hair is naturally wavy and can easily go straight with the flat iron..my hair color has run the gamut..from burgundy to jet black to caramel brown with all kinds of highlights and low-lights..it’s a wonder it has not fallen out..lol..but she is my saving grace as I change my mind a lot.
Cut and color—$55.00
High-lights—$70.00-$75.00
My biggest gripe is frizz, frizz and more frizz..it needs lot of conditioning.
i spend little on getting my hair cut, i am not prepared to pay the expensive prices that are asked. my biggest hair gripe is that my hair grows tooooo ssslllloooowwwwwlllyyy
