Q & A

Would you ever spend $25,000 - $30,000 or more on a wedding gown?  I watched Platinum Weddings and saw these crazy girls wanting to spend that ridiculous type of money on a dress that’ll be worn for 1 day!

    • Even if I had that sick kind of money to throw around, I don’t think that I would spend it on something that I would only use for 1 day!

I would for sure, buy a car, a boat, expensive shoes, but those things I would used often.

A wedding dress, although beatiful and special is put away after you wear it!

That’s just my opinion and again, we are talking about if that kind of money wasn’t too far out of our budget!

    • I don’t even think I’d go w/ $5000.  Well....If I had a huge budget, then maybe $5k but $20k - $30k is just silly.

    • You have got to be kidding.  I got my wedding dress from Macy’s for $250.  It was beautiful.  I had it shortened so I can wear it again. Even my first marriage, had 3 of them to the same man... I must have been mad, but I bought a off the rack suit in London and had a formal dress made there. A friend bought the silk from Thailand for me and another friend made the dress, less than $300 for the whole dress.

      My whole wedding cost $5000

My husbands and I paid for all of them

I think the cost of weddings are a disgrace. Spolit princesses....

Sorry, but that is my thoughts on that, even if I had the money

    • I agree.  I bought mine off the rack as well.  I think those ‘Platinum Weddings’ on the tv are sick.

I would rather put the money down on real estate.  But if I had millions of dollar, then a dress costing $5k wouldn’t be so bad.

Being that I don’t have millions and probably never will, lol, I think it’s crazy to spend money on something that you will wear only once.

You had the right idea, Kris.  Buy something that you can make use out of later!

    • My husband’s daughter expected him to pay for an elaborate wedding for her, but wanted her step father to walk her down the aisle or even be part of the wedding party. She had a 3 year old daughter.  We were also getting married that year.  I told my husband NO to her demands, he can send some money, but certainly not pay for her outragous wedding.  She refused to speak to him for years.  He was so upset. Spoilt little brat, just so she could show off to her friends and get expensive presents. She is still not married and blames my husband for it.

    • Well my bad as YUP if I had that kind of money for one of the most special days in my life and to hand down to my kids etc, yup yup yup.

My gown is made of raw silk and pearls etc...not telling the cost as it was quite expensive. But, I was the first dd my daddy got to walk down the aisle as my sisters did not invite him to theirs. [soon after the divorce from our mom]

So, I was quite spoiled with the dress and the veil and the whole fixings. When I looked at the cost I said maybe we should keep looking. My step-mom said nope, you want it, it’s yours!

I was very lucky to have a daddy that could do that for me with no financial hardships on him.

Like I always say, I’m not spoiled, just loved!

    • That’s just insane.  I sewed both of my wedding dresses.  First one cost $40 altogether.  Second one was pure silk and still only cost me $60.

Oldest daughter paid $500 for her wedding dress.  She’s now divorced and very disgusted about the amount of money she wasted on a wedding.

    • No way would I spend that much on a dress for one day! When I got married (the 1st time) I borrowed my aunts wedding dress (I was barely 18) the 2nd marriage was at the court house, no dress. My daughters wedding dress was on sale for $900 and thats as high as I would go!

    • Well, my bad!! lol

My dress is being handed down. My dd’s cannot wait for it. Hopefully it will be handed down to their dd’s as well one day.

As for me, i was lucky that my daddy could afford it. And he gives plenty to charities as well. estatic

We are not planning on divorce either, so it was a perfect dress for our perfect day.

    • Tracy, you‘re so lucky it can be handed down! happy  None of my daughters would have ever fit into my wedding dress. It would have been wonderful to hand it down.

I wanted in the worst way to wear my aunt’s wedding dress.  It was beautiful and I think quite expensive in its day.  Unfortunately I was about 6” taller than my aunt and about two dress sizes bigger.

    • Oh, MzTracy, what a beautimous dress!  I  spent about $325.00 for dress, hat and slip in all.  Put it on layaway and paid for it in cash.  And I LOVED that dress.  Funny thing, I just found it in storage and showed it to 2 of my daughters and they were like, ick, too frilly.  But they are all taller and weigh more than me, so I doubt if any of my 4 girls will wear it.

      And nope, I wouldn’t spend $25 K on a dress.
