Q & A

SUV - anyone?  My lease of a Toyota Higherlander Hybrid is up.  Hubby & I decided to turn it in for it costs $5K to repair the Hybrid engine if something is up.  For the long run, it is better to give that up.  I am in a city with ice and snow, so I prefer a SUV - do you drive one?  Any recommendations from your personal experience?

    • You guys are all probably going to laugh at me about this but, A great mini SUV (sort of) & it’s a blast to drive, is, believe it or not, A Chevy/GEO Tracker LSI. I drove mine for 10 years~ low maintenance, fun convertible that can be taken down in 3 diff ways, excellent on gas. Like a mini jeep. Try one!
My kids loved it!! ha ha

    • I drive a Ford F150. Lousy gas mileage, but I love my truck. I also have a Ford Taurus, better gas mileage and I’ve had almost no problems with it.

    • I took corners with that sucker at 40. They do not tip like everyone says they do. They are not top heavy.
The LSI has 4 wheel drive & handles excellently inthe snow. Blind spots are less as well b/c the windows are bigger. I loved it! Plus it’s cute!! Mine was white w/ black soft top. Nice tires. My daughter Jess called it the barbie jeep!! LOL

    • My husband has a truck and thanks Inakika, I am not fond of driving a truck.  Mainly SUV for me - we are thinking the Honda and Hubby wants to look into Hyundai Santa Fe.  Still looking and your opinion worth a lot to me.

    • I love my SUV and probably would never go back to a car. I leased once and it just isnt’t worth it.
I have had an Explorer, Pathfinder and currently a Moutaineer.
When I get around to purchasing again I will stay with Mountaineer providing Ford continues to make them.

    • BTW, when the lease term is up, what option do I have?  This is my first least too.  I have paid so much on monthly lease, and hate to see it wasted, but meanwhile I think I am stuck.  I don’t know if I build up any equity so I can use that for trade in?

    • Oh no, the $5k is only when the engine is bad.  My engine is good but hubby is afraid of expensive repair down the road.  I think I need to come up with 20K or more to buy it.  So this is worse, with $20K, I can get a brand new vehicle.
So no equity, ding dang ding.

    • Okay, did this once already, but my time expired! Anyway, my hubby is a Chevrolet Product Specialist, and he recommends the new Chevy Traverse crossover vehicle. It seats 7-8, and base price is $29,000.

That’s his input. Obviously, he is a brand loyal Chevy guy!

    • Hi. I drive a Jeep wrangler with all the bells and whistles and absolutely love it.I even convinced my husband to buy one and he loves his just as much.  Its my 4th jeep I statred with a Wangoneer, then 2 Cherokees with I loved so much, I ended up giving the last one to my sister who loves it. For me Jeeps are durable, and I feel really safe. Gas mileage is terrible though,

    • I own a Toyota Matrix. Great gas mileage and is considered a mini-SUV.  AWD and big enough for my husband & I (both over 6’ tall), our son and our giant dog with room to spare for camping equipment.

We also have a Chevy S-10 - which my husband call the P.O.S....I don’t know why though - it is 13 years old and still runs great and has never had any major repairs needed.  When we drive in the snow we just put chains on or sandbags in the bed.

Both very low maintenance cars that have great gas mileage.

    • My husband is pressing me.  So tomorrow we are checking Hyundai Santa Fe and then Honda CRV.  I am not an impulsive buyer and I will come back for more research.  I hate going to car dealership, they look like a bunch of vultures, ready to grab and eat you alive.
Once my husband was looking for a Dakota truck and I did not quite like it, the salesman said “Come on, Lady.  Every man MUST have a truck.”  Guess what, since he did not get my butt, he did not get my business, if he only knew who has the final say in my house!!

    • I visited two dealerships.  One was Hyundai Santa Fe and that had not impressed me.  I visited Honda and like their CRV.  My hands were sweating and my heart was beating fast.  I told my husband I hate going to dealer's yard.  He said he would do the talking and it did not take long for the smart salesmen to find out who is the bread winner.  The search is still on.  Thanks for asking.
