Q & A

Is playing a musical instrument really a “hobby“?  I mean, can we call the love of music a hobby or is it our passion?

    • Thank you, Kristi, this makes sense to me. I’m glad I didn’t respond insulted when I felt offended my sister called it a hobby. LOL

    • Hi Stacey,

I personally wouldn’t tell a musician their music passion was a hobby unless I was trying to wound their ego enough to get rid of them. LOL

About now, I’m taking a guess that the difference is where playing a instrument comes from within each of us? Some play for fun and that’s what a hobby is, right? We definitely can be passionate about a hobby too.

Some people are masters at making furniture that provides them an income, and they’ll call it a hobby.

      Thanks for the thought generation.

    • I just looked uu the definitions
      Passion: Strong feeling for.../love, desire
Hobby:An activity or interest pursued outside one’s regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.

So with that said; I am Passionate about my hobby of playing music happyheart

    • It depends how YOU feel about it. Is it something you do “just for fun” or something you truly love?

    • Hi Anne,

I truly Love playing the violin! I will play it just for fun where I “fool around with it” to see what music I can make, though have to admit to the serious learning end. It’s a passion.

First thought after the X told me he wanted a divorce was to transfer money into my bank
account, the second was to buy my Jay Haide violin while I had the money to do so. And 8 months later, I have no regrets and so glad I did.

In talking with you ladies about this, I’m so glad I didn’t react to my sister’s comment that my playing violin is an expensive hobby. It is really about how she perceives her own ad-
ventures into something new, I think.
